Electronics upgrade
Hoghappy,
Here's a way to move your batteries so that you may be able to remove them more easily. It's the way my boat is configured (with Steve Lang's upgrade package). He provides instructions on his page about half way down at "How to". Be sure and look at the photos pdf. http://sailrcnirvana.com/Nirvana_Store.html Jack |

Thanks Jack...I was aware of that upgrade as that is where I got my boat from. I decided not to cut into my battery tray because it wouldn't help with orienting this receiver in a better location. It needs to be where it's at due to the antennas and I can get the batteries in/out without the extra cutting.
That upgrade may help someone else with a different receiver though. Capt. Crash |

Glad I found this thread. I just bought the nirvann 2 and want to put in a 6 volt recharageable battery pack. I fly electric rc planes and am familar with battery packs.
What pack would you recommend, mah ect. I noticed from the pics that there 2400 mah batteries in the holder, another question is. Recharge batterys are 1.2 volts verses 1.5 on regular batterys. That would be only 4.8 volts / where the other is 6 volt? The 4.8 v would reduce the torque on the servos........ Is that ok?? Thanks Sanford |

My boat is on the fedx truck for today.........
While I wait I have a question, where can I buy the lines for the rigging when I need them? Its going to be 25mph winds today and about 38 degrees, no launch today for test run..............Thanks for all the advice, Sanford |

Hey Sanford...congrats...you will love this boat. Let us know how she sails.
I haven't had to replace my line yet, but have been pointed to: “The best line for sheets is the string brand name Spectra. It is not easy to find. However you can find another product I use called Dyneema at http://www.midwestmodelyachting.com/...upplies07.html - Item 310 is strong enough. One roll of this will take care of your whole fleet.” Others have suggested various types of braided fishing line. Are you referring to the long black wire? If so it's the antenna. Run it out the back of the electronics compartment, through the metal connector that hooks the backstay (line that runs from the back of the boat to the mast) to the boat, twist it around the adjustable backstay a couple of times and attach to the upper bowsie as in the pics. Don’t forget to file the sharp edges off the holes where all your sheets go through and the other little tips in the first post here. I got my Nirvana up and running last night with the new electronics and can’t wait till Sunday’s Club Sail. I did try to operate both the sailboat and the bass boat simultaneously on the bench last night, and it can’t be done using the same channels at the same time without both boats reacting to the transmitter. Looks like the rescue tug will have to maintain a dedicated radio. RATS! Capt. Crash |

FYI, I found a way to get 6volts and use a rechargeable battery. I fly model rc planes and have used li-poly batterys for years.
You can use a 2 cell which is 7.2v and then a small voltage regulator that cuts that down to 6 volts. The bat. is small enough to fit perfect in the battery area. Now I can have the best of all worlds, recharge battery and the 6 volts I need. It is not for everybody cause you have to have a special battery charger, but I already do. Still waiting for a good day to sail, but I am ready. You can get the regulator, which is actually a bec for servo power , from graysonhobby. Its like $14 shipping included. If you use lipo"s this would be a good setup, if not it is not probably worth the cost. 2 cell lipo run about $40, and you can get a charger at around $35. The nice thing about lipo is they hold their charge a long, long, time. You can charge them and a month later they are still good to go. |

Sanford,
I had considered Lipos, as I have some lying around, but the class rules prohibit them. D.4.2 Batteries - Batteries used must be AA cells, either alkaline, NiCad, or NiMH. Lithium batteries are not authorized. Aside from that I don't really need them. The 2400 NiMH's give me more than enough power for a day at the pond. I am considering a charge jack although I like to cycle different AAs into the mix. Capt. Crash |

Cool, I just want to get the full power on the servo. I turned on a fan at around 7mph and it would not pull the sails in until I turned the boat into the wind and like I said in my last post I don"t have to worry about the charge of the battery after a few weeks where as the nimh go down fast.I can also charge up this puppy in a hour or so.
But if you race and they are not allowed than I see your point. I wonder why they are not allowed??? Thanks for your help now and in the future, sanford |

Got my first sail yesterday........ The wind was very mild like 0-2 but it was still cool. It really looked great on the lake. I was impressed. Handled well.
I used the regullar AA batterys for about an hour +. I was supprised how warm they were when I came in. How long can you sail, will they give you warning when they get low or will it just not respond anymore? Still waiting for bec to install the lipo. Looking forward to some real winds, can see the fun comeing. |

I found these nimh batteries today. They are 6 volt and on sale. With some cutting they would fit in the boat.
Just thought you might be interested. now you can have 6 volts and be legal. I am going to use them cause after some thought lipo and water do not mix. Hope this is helpful. They say $14 but when you ck. out they are $8 something apiece. I order 2 http://www.megabatteries.com/item_de...4220&cat_id=55 |
