Designed and built

2007 was a busy year for me workwise so I only got to do three design and build projects done: Me 262, F86 and DH Vampire. (I also built Me262, A10, P38 kits from GWS)

Pics of each attached.

I finished painting the Vampire yesterday so it has yet to fly but the others go well.

I start with 1:72 3-views from the web or from books then build fus formers from 2.4 mm balsa. These are sandwiched with foam, carved and covered with brown paper and diluted aquadhere.
Wings are standard wire-cut foam with cf spars and brown paper cover.
All very strong but light. The Vampire, for example, weighs 700 grams with retracts, 3S1P 1800 mAh battery an full paint job.

Hopefully the weather will improve soon so I can get the Vampireup and away.

Cheers,
Sephen Davies

What are we defining as scratch-builds? I consider it to be if you've gotten some 3-view drawings, maybe some contours and various real-photos... and then build up your plane from that

Scratch-built usually means starting with a set of plans only, and "scratching-up" everything needed to make a complete model, no pre-cut kit o' bits or materials are supplied with the plans.

Starting with just a 3-view and pics is a "OD-Build", (own design scratch-build).

"Yeah Mate, built it meself, started from scratch."
