One mentioned that, "there was soo much grip, that he didn't have to
worry about throttle control".....

I think he must of been a really really great driver?????
but the these tires have great reviews on snow and rocks !

Thanks rclab1,
I did try the stock Crawler King tires, they are called "Rock Grabber".
They didn't work so good.
Too narrow and the truck just "digs in" and gets stuck.
Narrow tires tend to do that....that's why I went with the Big Joe's, the width seems to help the truck to float over the snow, rather than dig in.

Besides, I already had the Big Joe's (bought a long time ago and never used 'em till now).
I have been kind of doing this truck on a low budget.
I got the truck really cheap (back in June) and so-far everthing on it I already had, or I made from stuff I already had.
The only thing I had to buy was the rims for the Big Joe's.

Maybe if budget allows, I will look at getting some other tires later....

But for now the Big Joe's seem to be working ok.

Have you seen this:

動くんじゃ~!シリーズ 第一弾 ワイパー (0 min 37 sec)

That is soooo awesome !
Just ordered one pair for my car (not fpv, but cool anyway) !

This would bee the adding "real" factor in a FPV car
I would love to try them out in FPV car, but I dont have any scale body to my car :\

Windshield wipers are cool....

But I need some of those little side view mirrors I see some folks have....

Where do you get them?

Thanks!

FPV Chevy Summit

Had some time over the christmas holiday to finally put this all together.

The Summit is running a Neu 1520 1Y 1600KV brushless with a Kershaw design motor mount. Mamba monster esc. The tyres are rc4wd Rok Lok 4.0, and bead locks are axial oversized narrows.

Using the stock summit 2.4Ghz at the moment for RC which is fairly poor. I have a corona 36mhz to put in which I will do asap.

The Video is a 1.2Ghz 800mw sunsky with Sn777 camera mounted to a servo (for pan) in the drivers seat. The whole video system is powered by the balance plug, on one of the two lipos powering the car.

Run times are an hour or so if I'm in first gear.

Turned out nicer than I thought it would!

holy crap thats nice!!!! Whats your top speedwith that 1600kv? Im using a 2400kv with a 17 tooth drive gear, at 11.1v its about the same as stock equipment with 2x 8.4v traxxas powercells.

Cheers
I'm just running stock gearing, top speeds are around 30mph so it's a small improvement in that regard. The torque is crazy.
It's a great motor for the summit.

I'll try to get a video done in the next few days.

Well, here's some daytime FPV of the HPI Crawler King in some very fresh snow.
A few flakes were still falling when I started.... we got a few inches and it totally covered all previous tracks.

It's very hard to see in the white-out conditions, overcast sky didn't help much...
Sunny days the camera works a bit better.

great work, thats a nice setup on the crawler king... its a lot of fun playing in the snow, but Im finding that the added stress of the deep snow is burning out motors and speed controllers for me this year I lost my 60A brushless ESC, and my HPI 200A brushed unit. Motors seem to be ok though!

Thanks aaron

Bummer about your stuff burning out.
As you can tell I don't run this one too hard.
It still has the stock ESC and brushed motor.
I have seen several folks (on a truck forum) say the stock ESC is crap on the Crawler King (and it's brother the Wheely King).
But I have never had any trouble with them.

I did gear down the Crawler King for this latest video.
Stock was 21T pinion and 90T spur gear...
...and I went to a 17T pinion and 96T spur.
Helps for low speed throttle control, it's a bit smoother....
at the expense of top end speed... but this thing is not much for high speed anyway.

Joffa Dan and Specterx.... Very nice rigs you guys have!

Joffa, the body looks a little small for the size of the truck, or maybe it's just the huge tires, are you considering getting a more "scale" size body?

Still cool none the less.

Post some vids guys!

specterx, Are you planning to use a different video frequency "down the road" ( ) ?

5.8ghz is EXTREMELY line of sight dependent. I would definately recommend you look at an 800mW sunsky TX & RX. They are cheap, and will outperform your 5.8ghz unit by a long shot, on the ground.

Otherwise, looking great! I'm liking that gopro mount!
