RC Iceboat

Description thread here:

This film shows the RC iceboat under propeller power. John and Bob, Bob driving. No sound, alas, so you miss the metallic glide of the runners.

If we get wind, I'll film the boat under sail power.

1913 design Iceboat (with modern sail rig)

Thread discussing this ride-on iceboat here:

Bob, 5 1/2 yrs old, sails the iceboat for the 1st time. With more wind, earlier in the day, he tacked and gybed by himself. In these shots, the wind has dropped, and he gets some icetugboat assistance from his Dad.

Zipped .mov format, no sound, 1.5meg.

Douce france cher pays de
I know some dads up there that are going in trouble when there kids will see the ice boat on the pond...

It seems that you guys won't have to plow the pond to get a bigger surface to sail on as the snow seems to melt by himself...

Have fun today.

Normand - as you predicted, the snow on the pond melted. Last night it refroze, making almost the whole pond sailable (6+ inch black ice plus 2" snow ice) :-). Bob got in some good circuits, all by himself. John took some video, which we will post after editing. That little boat sure sails well with the Aquaglide sail, our grins were ear to ear.

Bob plays cops & robbers with John. New, smaller sail worked great in the stronger winds this evening.

Talkie picture 5.6meg .mov format.
