Wind and lift was awesome at Sunset Cliffs today! I think I've got the Shrotor's CG just a little too far back. It flew almost hands off inverted, and would whip around a turn, and with its current trim setting, it would climb out, slightly nose high, but if you give it a click of down, it would slowly start diving and then start tucking under as it built up speed. So I think one more of those flat squares of lead in the nose ought to do it.

Black Mountain Park

i have been having fun catching a little lift at Black Mountain Park. The wind shifts, but have been getting a little North wind which is the sweet direction. It usually will shift to the West which you can work too but you are over the thick bushes.

You will need a motor glider for BM Park.

My Radian does so so. But it is close to home for a quick fix.

it is weak there, but generally quiet.

Note all manner of craft flys here.

It is an OK place.

Which slope did you use there? I've flown powered planes there several times and it seemed like there was potential for some soaring on the little ridge between the parking and the runway area.

This friday

This Friday I'm gonna go to Horse Canyon and get there sometime between 11am-12pm.

Winds there are best when it is SW but W is okay too.

Forecast is W 16mph with gusts up to 25mph

http://f1.weather.gov/MapClick.php?w...unit=0&dd=&bw=

https://www.windfinder.com/forecast/horse_canyon

I flew there in early October. Road up is AWD accessible, has a 1,000' slope face, and has good lift.

It is located off the I-8 @ the Buckman Springs exit in east county.

Anyone want to go?

North facing slope to 4S Ranch.

Follow it West to the West facing part.

As the wind shifts you can use the direction you need.

Mid afternoon has thermal lift over the valley.

You need a motor glider to safely soar Black Mountain Park.

Of course, you can trek up Little Black across the street to the gluder port too.......

The lift around here is typically margin; hone some weak condition skills here.

Well a buddy and I went there and got to the top at about 1 p.m. I tested out the wind with my Ahi but it seemed to be too much right of Center, ie West North West to be comfortable flying from there.

So we went back down and flew from the south halfway up point where there was a vehicle turn out space to park. From there it was blowing about 10 miles an hour straight in and the lift was surprisingly fantastic!

Both of us flew our shrikes and were able to sky out with only one pass. The lift was best at the south and north turn points of where we were flying. The lift continued to until dark. Great day of flying!
