Noel and I may try Dave's Beach around 2PM after a little last minute shopping. Looks like it could be Weasel time.

Well, we went to Dave's this afternoon around 1:30 and the wind was way too far north to even try. Cruised around a bit looking for something better and in the end just hit the HS and bought some balsa for my current build. Rats

New Flying Site!!!

I am sure I am not the first one to have flown here, and I am sorry if I am divulging someone's secret spot. But I have never heard anyone mention it, and it has probably been quit a hike to get there until fairly recently. So since it is Christmas Eve, I thought I would let everyone (in San Diego at least) know about this great place I found and flew today.

It is a good 100+ yard slope, about 400-500 feet high with a very nice flat and step face, although at the top there is plenty of nice weeds to set down in if you have any troubles. The top is dirt and flatly graded from 50 to 200 feet wide for landing, and there is a parking lot that can hold 50+ cars. Although it is about 10 miles inland its got a great ocean view. It was great today with a 10 mph northwest wind, but the lift still had a little north to it, so it is probably even better with a west. Due to the topography any wind with south in it probably will not work.

When I got there I first threw out my new Art Hobby Colibri DLG to test the lift. I was specked out in no time and had more air then I knew what to do with. So then I threw out my Moth (which I just rebuilt on the heavy side), and was racing up and down the slope with no lift problems at all. So finally, it was time to through out the composite MiniBlade, and all I can say is WOW. I had enough air to do whatever I wanted to do with that whistler!

Since I found it and flew it for the first time (that I know of) I am going to name it RED HAWK POINT, since I had at least 8-10 encounters with red tail hawks while I was flying for 2 hours (really cool).

Ok here are the direction, and I am going to have a little fun with them, because it is Christmas, and because I can. If you live in San Diego you should not have any problem figuring it out and finding it, in fact you have probably driven past it hundreds of times )

Go into La Jolla Village,
Go to the north Town Centre,
Turn right into the East Gate Mall,
Turn left into the Judicial buildings,
Drive straight back to the basket ball court,
Turn right and look to your left.
Go back to the back parking lot, park, fly and enjoy!

Well tomorrow is Christmas day, and we have a high wind advisory for the entire day. If it is coming out of the north west like it has been all weekend, I guarantee it will be epic. So if Santa was good to you since you have been a good little sloper this year, come on up there and play with your new toys. I will be there for sure, since I am having Christmas dinner with my sister who lives right by there.

Don't forget that Jesus is the reason for the season (and for finding new soaring sites )

P.S. if you can't find it with the directions call me on my cell 760-505-4425

thanks Chris- I'd love to join you at Redhawk... unfortunately I suck at word games and puzzles not to mention I have lived in SD for less than a decade so i'll have to get the directions for dummies version!

Have a great Christmas and happy flying to you and everyone on the groups and in San Diego!

JB that is it!!!!
The picture is perfect. A little older and the backside of the pad has a building on it, but their parking lot is a perfect place to park and fly.
You going to be able to fly tomorrow?

Ray and Chris,

We need an address so we can put it into "The Google".

Do you mean La Jolla Village DR??????
How far is it to "Go to the north Town Centre"......1 mile, 5 miles?

I am not familiar with that area of town.

I found what I was looking for:

Type this address into mapquest. Then use the aerial image view.

That should be it!
Red Death should be flyable in about and hour or so and the shrike is on the charger!

Hey Oran,

Try this address in Google maps and use the satellite view. From this point you just continue north on Judicial and you will run into the basketball court.

9399 Judicial Drive, san diego
