r39o, I'm near there, but have never flown there. Can you give enough directions that a newbe can find the flying spot? I'm having trouble picturing where in the Black Mountain Park I know that would be good flying... Are you actually flying from Black Mountain itself?

It is simpler than it looks in words.

Take Black Mountain Road North until it makes a Tee with Carmel Mountain. You can only turn left or right. Turn right to the North headed towards 4S Ranch.

The first traffic light turn left into the park. Be careful not to miss the turn lane as you have to drive into 4S to turn around!

Drive up and pull into the parking lot on your right.

Basically walk North on the dirt path which has boulders in front of it to prevent vehicles.

It is a quarter mile hike up the flat trail to the North.

Just keep walking, you will get there.

I only take what I can carry in one trip. That means one plane and my TX box with batteries.

HAVE FUN!

NOTE: My photo editor is not cooperating, and I can not add text to the picture. I want this up fast for you. You want to go North of the parking lot.

Thanks! I found it on Google Maps. From the satellite view, it looks like a pretty low hill, but it looks well-shaped. What do you usually fly there?

Anything since we have a runway.

Usually I slope something with power. It is usually light there. Thermals over the valley on hot days. I like my Radian generally there.

BUT today is a boomer day. You need something that likes the wind. Radian, even with ballast will not come down today!

If you have something heavier take that.

NOTE: It is a decent slope down to 4S Ranch btw.

The wind is optimal today for the Northern slope. We only get this every now and then. It is a treat we do not often get to enjoy there.

Have fun!

if others go I could too, for a while.

Baahahhahaha

Oh I'm sure Laguna will be.

Love the 1st video-cracks me up.

Love the Bennie Hill music, lol.

Meeting someone in CLMT at 6pm, and Miramar is reporting ENE @ 23mph, so I think I'm gonna go try
the slope that is at the end of a parking lot in a business complex that is just north of Eastgate Mall Rd off the 805 overlooking the 805 Mira Mesa northbound exit and Sorrento Valley. It should be straight in there.

Or perhaps the opposing ridge might be too much in the way, in which case,

I'll try the slope a little more north near the end of Towne Center Dr.

Will give Black Mountain Park a try today as I am feeling better to the point I can give it a toss before I have to go somewhere near by.

Tomorrow Dave's as the wind is supposed to turn and I have to be up there for a meeting. Hope for the best with the smoke.....

I do feel for the people impacted by the fires. Their nightmares are just starting....btdt

Today, Friday, I felt good enough to fly again.

Went to Black Mountain Park in the afternoon.

Too bad the wind died down.

Monday was THE boomer day there, I have to repeat.

It was nice enough today, as I could fine trim my Radian some more.

Tomorrow I have a Carlsbad meeting then it is off to Dave's Beach.

Thursday I went and tried to fly at the slope near the end of Towne Center Dr.

Something about that topography made the lift VERY turbulent. Not fun. One the plus side.........the landing area is great.

Careful what you wish for!

Could not go to Dave's today, but did go to Black Mountain Park.

After helping my buddy ready his plane we got to the field at 4PM.

Basically, the winds were near gale force (Beaufort 7) at the edge of the slope.

Forecast was 23mph and it was a lot more.

The runway carpets started to fly away......

Tomorrow, Sunday, is forecast for 18mph.

We could hardly hold our planes so we decided to battle another day.

I have a video, but Youtube is giving me fits......
