Doom-eh? Doom-ee? Doom? ...no idea! Maybe a local can tell us. I should resurrect the Fly-Cam, it's just so time consuming. That would have been I good vid. Scotty got some pics on his cell phone. We'll see if they're any good.

I found these items:

Point Dume (once know as Dume-ay, doom is now the established pronunciation) was named after Father Francisco Dumetz in 1782 shortly after explorer George Vancouver visited Dumetz at the Mission San Buena Ventura and then sailed south. At one time, the best way to get to the Point was by train. The military occupied the area during World War II, and the head of the Point was shaved off into a half-acre flat top, where lookout structure were built to keep watch for enemy Japanese submarines and attack vessels.

It wasn’t until 1793, when explorer George Vancouver, traveling south, named the promontory Point Dumetz in honor of his friend Father Francisco Dumetz. Over the years the 'tz' was dropped and the landmark became known as Point Dume. To this day many people debate the pronunciation, with some calling it Point Dume (Do-may) and others preferring Point Dume (Doom).

Looks like you guys are at the Hang glider port over looking Blossom Valley right? Have you tried the hike to the top of Viejas? Not much of a landing zone, but half way up it levels out, might be fun for a hike... I'm still 1 plane out before I build a sloper, but it looks fun.

Anyone with access to the base, I guess. Great picture.

Ray: Not bad. A bit bumpy but pretty clean once I got some altitude. It was one of those "hunh. I wonder if this'll work" kinda things that I had to try.

FCB,
No, on the West side there is access from Anderson rd,(Forest Service Property) with a relatively popular hiking trail. Picture is the best I could get you, Google Earth was a bit of a pain to pull this from.
