Now it is left to cure with the wiper down so the epoxy settles in the mylar and does not move forward or back. Tomorrow I will pull the mylar off and sand any excess wiper away off the front edge and then the elevator is finished. I will take more pics of the final process tomorrow.

It is easy dude! I found that I do a better job when I dont mask off the surrounding areas and change gloves often. Then you can see even the smallest amount of epoxy if you make a mess of it.

I really learned something. Possibly there are quite a few insights that will allow even me to try it out. I will be looking for Mylar.

Very nice tutorial Joe!

I'm assuming the wiper could be made as thick as one would want but it does seem most are actually pretty thin in cross-section. Is damage to them at all common? I'm guessing not since they seem pretty well protected when surfaces are more often then not in the neutral position during transport and storage.

I use an almost identical method, and have found I need a second set of hands to help lock the end of the mylar inside the bottom edge of the tailplane at the final step. A small annoyance but still a very neat method and well explained Joe.

Once cured, I open up the surface to 90 degrees to allow the mylar and wiper to come free of the skin. Peel up the mylar and tape. Next is to sand the wiper down to about 1/2" wide.

I couldnt take a picture while I was sanding but here is the sander I use while keeping the surface taped wide open.

Once sanded short enough the wiper will clear and you can close the control surface. All done and ready for final assembly.

I finished up all the wipers on the wing today. Just a couple more things to do and I can start putting gear in this new model.
