Upgrading your Imax B6 balance charger?

I have tested the Imax B6 balance charger.
Outcome was that it is a fine charger but the balancing is very bad. Also end voltage of charger is inaccurate.

I have examined the circuit and improved it by changing the accuracy of some resistors (1% to 0.1%).
The resistor mod improves accuracy of the voltage measurements. So numbers on the display and actual cell voltage are much more equal to eachother now. The balancing of the cells is therefor improved.
Also charging end voltage of the pack is much more accurate.

The resistors I used are:

4x 100k 0.1% 0805
2x 200k 0.1% 0805
1x 18k 0.1% 0805 which is connected in series with 100E 1% 0805 to form 18k1
1x 68k 0.1% 0805 which is connected in series with 300E 1% 0805 to form 68k3 (or 66k5 0.1% 0805 + 1k8 1% 0805)
8x 249k 0.1% 0805
8x 499k 0.1% 0805[/QUOTE]

I think I can make component sets that include all you need to upgrade your Imax B6. But therefor I need enough people that want it (to decrease components prices). I would ask $10,- for a set excluded shipping (which will be cheap because the components are very small).

Are these SMT's?

I made themistake of buying one of these. I had the Imax5 and it worked well. The Imax 6 sucks eggs. I will get in line for a 10$ fix to my 65$ boondoggle. I assume that a fine point soldering iron is needed. Can you provide diagrams of which bits need to be replaced and a few simple instructions?

I have an Imax B-6. Not qualified to do the repairs to balance system myself. Was going to send it back to U.H. but am skeptical anything would be done.

Would try the repair if instructions were available.

Yes, they are SMT's.
And I would include instructions on how to do the upgrade.

I am interested in the resistor set too. While I have a B8 charger, supposedly most resistors are the same value.

I just ordered a B6, wish I would learn to read forums before I buy, I could save some money, anyway--but for the price, you can't beat this charger, and I can remember when we all started charging lipo's, nobody knew what the hell a balancer was anyway--my Triton don't have no stinkin balancer, I just plug in my blinky thing and charger, fly when it's done.
I was reading somewhere that you can charge 2-3cell lipo packs (same mah,V's) at once if you make up a harness, is this posible with the imax?

I would also be intrested in a up-grade kit when available, can I get these from Digikey?--or is radio shack stupid question.

I did charger 2 3s at once, it's OK. You need a 1 to 2 serial dean adapter cable and a 6s to 2 3s balance lead adapter. I got my harness as an option together with my IMAX B6. This blog may give you some idea.

You can get the parts from Digikey (Radio shack not I guess).
But you can also get them from me for $10,- excl. shipping (parts have been ordered and will arrive within a few days).

Just for the record...this is not an issue of the Bantam B6 charger, just for this clone Imax B6 look-alike. (sigh) It's like the Airhogs Havoc scenario all over again.
