Propeller Calculator


Today I have posted a propeller calculator on my website www.drivecalc.de. The application is meant for the advanced pilot and for those, who are eager to learn more about drive systems.

Helmut Schenk has written PropCalc years ago in Borland Pascal. It was my pleasure to port the software for Windows and Mac OS. Using impressive mathematical effort, the application computes the in-flight performance of propellers based on geometrical data and wind tunnel measurements of the airfoils.

Any more data?


The calculator is superb but the propeller database is limited. Does anyone else have windtunnel data that could be provided? I seem to remember JRB of Minnesota (whose real name escapes me at the moment) did some work.

Christian, my friend and I have downloaded Prop Calc for Windows and would like to use it in designing some propellers for high altitude autonomous aircraft record attemps.

The current version seems to limit the air density function; Roh, to values one or greater. Is it possible to get a version where we can input smaller values (very much smaller!)

those diagrams only give you static condition. Christians program calculates dynamic thrust and power consumption.
PS: Aeronaut is not Graupner.

thanks, Christian. The prop is split into little pieces of wing, each with different velocity, airfoil and angle of attack, drag and lift calculated, converted into torque and thrust and then added together.
