What kindda radio do you have now, you might be able to convert it to 2.4. I did with my Eclipse, love it!

Do you need the servos? I'd just buy the Tx/Rx combo unless you really need some more standard servos.
ServoCity 6EXAS Tx /R606FS Rx combo - $219.99 shipped. TowerHobbies 6EX Tx/R606FS Rx combo - $219.99 -$30.00 (Coupon 010BC) +$8.99 (shipping if your not in the Super Saver Club) = $198.98 shipped. |

I've had real good luck with my 6ex Radio, but as someone said the receivers are about $90.00 each and thats pretty expensive when you get a few planes going at the same time. I do like the radio tho. Good flying Jerry

dwkwingnut : I hav been using a 4 Ch Futaba ... but i am looking for a new Tx ..the old one is damaged...
smileyz : Thank u ! ..will check this up ... Pinecone : Read ur comments and a few more by others abt Tx in the Radio forums.... never really saw the big picture ... as u hav mentoined .. i just thot a 6CH Tx and the bundled Rx wud do the job ..and fit the bill .. Anyways ... here is the situation... : 1. I have built and flown regular scaled balsa / composites ... the biggest with a wing span of abt 7Ft ... and now wanna try foam ... (am looking at parkjets ) ... so nothing exuberant ... 2. Have a bunch of regular futaba servos ... but its unlikely that i wud wana use them on the parkjets ..cos i am looking at something smaller 3. NiCAD and NiMh have served my purpose so far ... but i wana try Lipoly ..(with parkjets .. lets say i dont hav a choice ..) 4.And most of my models were Glo engine powered ... have tried a few electric as well ... this wud b a serious transition .. with due respect to engines ... glo ,diesel..et all 5. Delta / flying wing is something i want to experiment as well ... so a little mixing .. and programming ability over the Tx is something i dont want to discount going forward ..but yes , its definetly on my mind With this said .... what would u guys adivce ...for the Tx / Rx ... motors etc ... |

Fockerwolf, I am in a similar situation. I just took the hobby back up after 15 years away. My old Futaba FM 6 channel works fine but it is a non computer radio I really would like to have the better functions like mixing, multi-model memory etc. I have accumulated quite a bit of Castle Creation stuff which doesn't work with the 2.4 stuff. Also, I am a bit hestiant to go with the Futaba 2.4 because the receiver cost is relatively high. I live where there is little flying activity so someone else flying on my channel is not a problem. So, I have been looking at an Hitec Optic Six FM that I can get from Servo City with one crystal for $135 or $179 with the Spectra module. These are compatible with all my CC Berg receivers. I think this would take care of my needs for many years to come. YMMV
Also I have some old .40 size glow planes I have had in storage that I am electrifying with the new A123 batteries. I have tried a bunch of smaller foamies with both Nimh and Lipos but it is windy here most of the time and many of these don't handle the wind well. |
