Maybz,
Outstanding piece of work. One of the best build logs I have seen. Just very good documentation on an inspiring model.

Hi people heres an idea for auto sweeping wings on the f-14 using a spektrum dx7 which should b adaptable to other transmitters

1. Set the model type to a heli
2. Set the swash plate type to 1 servo norm

auto sweep:
3. for throttle curve norm, st-1 and st-2 use a linear gradient 0 to 100%
4. for pitch curve norm use a flat line at 0% (wings no sweep)
5. for pitch curve st-1 use a flat line at 100% (wings at full sweep)
6. for pitch curve st-2 create a curve so that as you start to get near the top end of the throttle then it starts to climb (see pic)

Elevon mixing:
7.in "prog mix 1" use the following
AILE->ELEV ON
RATE: +100%
+100%
SW:ON
OFFSET: 0

8.in "prog mix 2" use the following
ELEV->AILE ON
RATE: -100%
-100%
SW:ON
OFFSET: 0

ive attached pictures of the dx-7 screens to give you an idea on my setup sorry about the quality.
on my st-1 mode i have the wings opening if the throttle gets to nearly off.

This setup means in normal mode and st-1 you can sweep like on maybz' setup but on st-2 you can have a dynamically changing wing sweep like on the real f-14

wing servo is on the aux1/pitch/flaps channel

hope all that makes sense

Mk2 maiden video

Here's a quick vid from yesterday's test flight. We only had a 10 minute window to film so it's a bit hurried...

MDC F-14 Mk2 test video (3 min 48 sec)

I'm gonna have to try Bigbadbob's autosweep setup now... what a great idea.

Kit info will be announced in a few days when they are ready. First run of 10 kits will be white, if there is enough interest I will do a run a grey also (assuming Birdofplay is up to the task).

I'm not usually attracted to park jets, but this one is just too cool - and so acrobatic. It's officially on my "to do" list.

Maybz,

What motor/prop combo did you select for the Mk2?

I can build one, but that pizza box of parts looked mighty nice. I want my kit in grey, but would take white if its available.

I used a 150watt, 1500kv Dualsky motor with an APC 7x5 prop on this build... this is the same power unit that Yardbird recommends for their F-22. Performance seems similar to the LS purple peril motor with same prop as used on the Mk1.

Bigbadbob.. I just finished programming a new heli profile for the Mk2 per your instructions. I deviated slightly from your setup and did this:

ST2= open wings
ST1= auto wings
Norm= swept wings

Another nice side effect of using the Heli flight modes is that there are independent trims for each position now - Nice!

Now I just have to wait patiently for the snow to stop falling....

Gotcha covered dz1sfb !
---------------------------

I'm using a Trakker III from Polks !
and only a Berg 4 ch RX in my F-14. but ...

I get the wings to work on the Rudder channel Ch4 !
I mixed a programmable 3 position switch ( CH5)
With CH4 and Killed the stick input.

A cheapo way around the problem !

I was about to go test/maiden it when I realized that I had NOT
hooked up the Elevons yet !!! What was I thinking ? duh ???
Maybe tomorrow ! wheeew !

You got Snow ! ! !

We HAve SERIOUS Mud Slides !
Check out CNN for Oregon Mudslides !
It closed the only road on the OTHER side of my Valley
so all the traffic is over HERE NOW ! ! !

flew again last night. i'm seriously thinking of changing the motor. right now it has a UH fc2508 6 in prop.
would an eflite 370 outrunner on 3s 1000 mah 20c work.
with the current set up it.s slow and hard to turn left. both throws are equal.
would ailerons work on a fixed open wing?

Do you mean FC 28-05? If so then you are way underpowered. The FC 28-12 would be a great choice however... I have one of these in my Yardbird F-22 and it is fantastic. I would upgrade the motor before you add ailerons because you are going to need more power with the fixed open wings. You will probably find that ailerons aren't needed with more power. Also make sure your elevon throws are correct. They should almost touch the vertical fins with full left or right stick input.
