Getting caught up with JW's! and some tips/tricks


man, these things are like rabbits on viagra!..... they just start to multiply


Anyhow...excuse the mess... my garage is so effin' packed i have to pull my barracuda out just to have room to build...

i think there are 6 or 7 JW's in here?????? They build quick and easy but when you have so many of them its just flat out a lot of time!.....

some random pics... i'll be putting a bunch togeter for a build thread soon... took the day off to see how many i can get done... how cool would it be to finish all these today!... if it wasnt for goop drying time it would be possible

Just some tricks i use when building...

When i glue my spars in with GOOP i make 3 marks per side where i do not put goop... i keep those areas dry and i use CA at those locations... Too many times i have sunk in spars and come back in the morning to see my spar pushed out .. even when i apply weight i have had issues... by doing this its kinda like "Tack welding" the spar into place. These few locations HOLD the spar exactly where i want it while the goop is taking its time drying.

Another is not really a trick but a reminder... when glueing in the JW spars into the joiner make sure you SCUFF it up... i do the whole spar so it has good bite throughout the wing.

Cool tip. Should work even better with PU Glue. Does thinned Goop dissolve CA?

well... 3 wings done, and 6 fuses shaped with gear installed... still need tape/goop though..... im done for the night, wanted to get more done but all the little things add up.

Joe,

My 72" wing with servos weighs 37oz, and I was being careful with the goop, Jason's did fly at 120oz

JW wings


I have never been able to get my JW wind ballanced to where it will fly. Where is the balance point of the 60 " version of this flying wing?

Just a hair in front of the spar joiner. If it's on the joiner or behind it, it will barely fly, if at all...

From me experience..

Instructions say 2 3/4" aft of LE which puts it just on the front edge of the joiner on my build.
What is a good weight for a completed JW-60? I am at 28 oz and still have to tape the fuse and cover everything plus install battery and add any balance weight needed to GC.

38-58 oz. is good. depends on the conditions you usually fly in.
