Work In Progress.....My New AP Ship

Thought I'd share my latest creation. Made up from three Easystars, I thought my P-38 style EZ could make an excellent AP platform. I'm running her on a single Tornado 3630/1000 brushless motor and a Graupner 10x6 CAM folder, but I may go up to a 11x7 APCE. She'll have an AUW of 1270g and a wingspan of 74 inches. I''ve enlarged the rudders, but I'm also going to install ailerons which could be used as flaperons. I saw a twin Easystar a few days back which looked to work well, so fingers crossed.

I'll post more info soon.

yes but why ? I can see why people mod a SS to twin boom to allow for a pusher set up but arent you just adding weight for very little wingspan gain to a pre existing pusher ? [ok I admit it looks cool]

Thanks guy's

booma...

I can see what your saying, but by using a tail-less middle fuse, I can use a much larger motor to swing a huge prop. This will give (should give) excellent climbing ability, and will out-perform a twin motor setup. By increasing the overall wingspan by 20" it will also allow me to use a heavier camera, even though the AUW of the plane has increased to that of a standard EZ. Comparing the weight of this plane to other similar sized AP contenders, she should work well. But if you don't try, you'll never know

hehehe...imagine the roll rate

Mark,
very cool.

One of the nice things about the standard EZ* is that you can give it a squirt of rudder and power to turn it quickly when it's not moving fast. You may have lost this ability, since the rudders aren't in the propwash?

When are you maidening ? I'm only over the border so I may come and watch/video !

Hi Adam,

You right about the rudders, thats the reason why I decided to go with the aileron mod. I have enlarged the rudders, but like you say, because there's no air being blown directly over them, they may not work as well.

I'll sure let you know when I'm ready to maiden

Btw, where will the camera go? Maybe on the middle pod somewhere?

Cheers,

David

PS. You don't need the motor mounts on the external fuselages so you may as well chop 'em off

Wow, there's no end to imagination or design. Nice work. Can wait to see how she flies and how it works for AP.
