Hi Guys. Thanks for a great thread. I've just ordered a BC Strong from Bob at SUSA and was thinking of putting some MKS 6125 mini servos in the ailerons and 2 for the tail elements. Full size 6125s for the flaps. I am planning on using those ali servo frames with a 3rd bearing in the wing servos. Anyone see any issues with this setup?

Thanks in advance!

Brett

Love the metal mounts and full size 6125's in my 4.0m Xplorer; I see no issue with the same in the Ceres.
You may have to change the horn arrangement as other have (Dieter, I think) in the past for best geometry.

+1 on the metal mounts; they're really slick. Target is correct - the flap horns are below the surface and really benefit from being raised a little to avoid flutter issues. It is also recommended you box in the servo bays.

Good luck and enjoy it! They fly great.

Best,

Victor

My Big Ceres Strong just arrived . Couple of interesting findings: this one has RDS!! All the gear is provided so let's see how my first RDS setup goes...
It also doesn't have have provision for ballast in the wings like I believed all string versions have. No carbon rovings in the fuz either. Will check with Bob at SUSA.
Build quality is A1.
Let me know if you have experienced the above.

Thanks!!

Same as here, no carbon in fuse, I just don't remeber if I have ballast holes in the wing...
but, with this plane weighting 4-5kg you won't need ballast hehe

uuuh...gleee!

Iím keeping this thread alive, because I like this plane. Itís a true sloper (too big and heavy for any F3 flying), and itís perfect for up here in them thar Andes. Itís my most-flown plane here. With the Big Ceres, Jiri Baudis has created a nice slope machine, which can pound through compression on coastal slopes just like it can utilize inland thermals.
So why ugly? -- On Saturday, during itís 153rd flight here in Colombia, it had a high-speed mid-air with a flock of birds, and the D-tube of the wing has suffered substantial damage; the spar remained intact. Iíve forced the D-tube back into shape (mostly), fixed some of the jagged carbon with CA, covered the gashes and holes with some taped on card stock, and slapped sign vinyl over that; see the photos.
I flew it again today, and the loss in performance is quite noticeable (as one would expect). Itís somewhat akin to driving around with the parking brake applied. It still flies, of course, no bad habits, just trying to tell me it is ready for retirement.
Gladly, it looks like I will get to replace it soon. Personally, I think the wing is sufficiently deformed to not warrant better repair attempts.

Hi Dieter,

it seems that your plane had gone all his nine lives hehe...
really cool to see someone taking it for that long and still enjoy it, very good plane..
I have the electric version but it's big and heavy for my small apartment, that's why I'll let it go, PM if you're interested

Andre, you're not supposed to fly the BC in your apartment... : )
Thanks for the offer, but I'm lucky to not need expensive motors for nose weight where I fly; I'll be getting another pure glider version.

That Big Boy loved Big power, it became a monster liner and it
Glide amazing well in thermal. I really recomend Big power for
This toy, go for it! Only concern is about wings linkage, it should be
Solid as rock, just like my ds planes

Arrrgh, PDX, whatcha doin'??! Ain't you s'posed to be flippin' burgers and shootin' off fireworks? Now I have to figure out where to find the dough to buy one of these, and how to haul it from Germany or get it shipped from SUSA. Thanks a lot! And happy 4th... : )
