Washington State Ferry boat during storm

Umi, thought you would like to see these, since you shared your build with us some months back. Here in WA state, we have a state owned ferry system that is considered an extension of the highways, to a point, that is. Here's an Issaquah Class boat, exceeding 300' LOA, 78' beam, displacing 2,477 tons empty.

Where is that? Port Townsend? Or did they just decide they needed to cross Juan de Fuca Straight for fun?

It's hard to imagine the Sound with such high seas.

Thanks for posting those they are awsome...

Seen the same photos last week. too bad for the cars up front that goot a salt water bath. hopefully the owners went to a car wash with in a day or so. Funny thing about that storm, was that it was predicted to be bad winds up north in my area. The worst of the winds were from Everett to Tacoma ( North and south of Seattle) were they were predicted to be only around 20 mph-not the 45-50 mph that they got. And yes, Puget Sound does get that bad with 10-12' waves at times when the winds are blowing and tides are just right.

The only car ferry I have ever been on was a dinky little ferry in Virginia, near Jamestown I think. It only held a couple cars IIRC. I rode on it in my Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII back around 1973 or so.

Glad to miss that during my trip to orcas island this summer...on the other hand as a formal grand son of a captain which used to fish near terre neuve (after crossing the atlantic from france), I have to admit that I miss waves and wind storm.... here in wisconsin the biggest wave that I see was around 2 feet .... no comment ...

Spring and fall runs on the Badger can get interesting with a Northeast wind blowing. A full gale running the length of the lake builds some really nasty wave action. So if you ever need a wave fix just hop a ride on the Badger to Ludington. In any kind of real weather forget the Lake Express. LE doesn't run when it gets rough.

The Witch of November doesn't just haunt Superior.

I was looking those pics over again. That boat was rocking pretty good. Do they secure the cars in any way on the ferries? Also were they taking green water on the car deck or just spray? Definitely a white knuckle ride.

On the BC Ferries they just block one of the car tires, of the first and last cars on, for each lane
