Question

anti spark

I am questioning the use of a anti spark connector in combination with a Phoenix-45HV ESC. What does the CC staff have to say? Good bad indifferent? I would like to save my $5 connectors, but if I am putting my $xxx.xx CC ESC at risk I will gladly sacrifice the connectors.

Thanks, Mike

I use a 4 ohm resistor to eliminate the spark. I use bullet connectors and have the resistor soldered to the female end so that it makes contact first. This will charge the capacitor and eliminate the spark.

I have heard that anything up to a 100 ohm resistor will work. The higher ohm ones just takes longer to charge the capacitor.

I will try to post a photo later today.

Anti spark resistor Ė itís as easy as 1-2-3.

Hear are some photos.

Thanks for the replies, but my question was in reguards to possible damage or problems created by using a anti spark connector, not how to make one (sorry for the confusion).

I realize the spark lets you know the capacitor(s) are working, and some say certain ESC's measure the voltage when plugged in. Is there any other possible complications? Am I putting my ESC at risk of being damaged or not operating properly? I see many people use the anti spark connector, but that doesn't mean it's right.

Thanks again, Mike

Simple solutions are the best. I love the way you've accomplished this.

I really donít like to see a spark Ė Iím always afraid it will scramble the ESCís brain. I use an anit-spark on all ESCís with more than 3s LiPo voltage.

I donít think the spark is good for the capacitors either Ė it probably shortens the life.

Patrick, any comments?

Well, with no response and only more examples of how it is done, I have to assume they cause zero problems. Thanks for the examples, some are very good!

One potential problem I saw mentioned is that the Auto-Lipo mode won't work with a resistor but I guess most users who worry about sparks set the cutoff voltage themselves. There might be other problems so an official explanation would be welcome.

(I don't use any anti spark method so far as the spark is small at 3s and there is a lot of metal to vaporize on 4 mm plugs before it will affect conductance.)

Auto LiPo mode works great with my setup. You probably have too much resistance. Like I said I use a 4 ohm resistor Ė what resistor do you use?

We've found that a 1 ohm resistor works quite well, and allows Auto-Lipo to work correctly.

While we are on the subject, does anyone have an elegant and compact anti-spark setup using Deans Ultra connectors?
