Crashed with Spektrum, Unknown cause.
Was tuning my engine in my Stratus today.
14MZ with Spektrum Module
Arizona regulator with 5200mah battery.
I actually did a range check today (usually never does anymore hmm..)
Everthing checked out fine.
Tuned the engine during first tank, was about 400-500 feet from me as maximum without any issues.
Second tank, Battery checker read 7.35v under 1.5amp load (8-ball checker)
Mid tank was hovering about 60 feet out, did a punchout at normal mode, and engine & receiver went to failsafe, heli tilted and dropped out of the sky, I had no control.
It went in sideways, landed fairly close to me.
I went directly to it and checked radio, everything responded perfectly right away, didnt reset or anything.
Checked all cables, everthing is inplace as it should.
I benchtested the regulator by stalling the servo and putting up to 9 amp load on the regulator, it still supplied good voltage.
Back home I doublechecked the RX battery, it was 75% full.
Checked the antenna, module & trainer cable, everything is perfectly secure.
So, RX went in to failsafe, but why!?
Ideas are welcome
Should add that I have hundres of success flights with this heli before it went down.
Sorry to hear Fredrik, i had issues with one of my machines. It turned out to be the Arizona not up to the task. The Arizona is rated to 17 watts only, something my heli could do sitting on the bench. It would work for a while then heat up and voltage would dump causing resets or dancing servos. shortly after stopping the motor it would cool enough to look as thou it was working fine.
I do hope you get ot the bottom of this , there is nothing more annoying that an undiagnosed issue.
I consider myself very good at soldering, but my last two "crashes" were due to "cold" solder joints on my battery connectors. Seems like I'm in a hurry and am too concerned about getting a short even though one pin is covered with shrink wrap. I discovered this by wiggling the battery connector when it was connected to the ESC and/or Rx. The servos would jump and if long enough the system would go to fail-safe as in loss of signal. I pulled the heat shrink off and the wire could be pulled apart from the connector pin. Now when I solder the connector pins to the battery wire I make sure they cannot be pulled apart prior to heat shrink.
There are many reasons for crashes but few are ever fully explained.
