A-10 with stock EDF-55s and 300h and NiMh flyable?


I just got a GWS A-10 and it is in my second plane, I don't want it too fast so I don't want to go Brushless. Will it flywell with the stock motor (EDF-55 and the 300H) on a NiMh battery? I am not doing any thing fancy with it besides a few small carbon fiber braces (wing, fusealge, and nacelle holders). Will this fly good?

Hello ,

I fly it with a Lipo 3 S Polyquest1200 and it rocks Full power only for the handlaunch the rest of the flied I throttled back . No proplems with the motors till now (and I used it for very long time)

Hi Guys

I agree, go lipo, the nimh's will hold it back and make it too heavy, todays lipo's will discharge better and be lighter with more capacity. win win win.

My old edf 50's would fly with 350mah nimh but the edf 55 300H are heavier so just like Rudi, I did the same lipo thing.

3s Lipo translates to 10 cells nickle. You'll be awfully heavy...

I had one with the EDF-55 fans and the 300H motors. They were surprisingly strong motors. I ran a single ESC and a 10-cell Intellect 1200 NiHM pack. A slightly-more-than-gentle hand toss and it was in the air. I got 4-5 minutes flying with this setup and never had a problem. It didn't fly well under 60% power but what jet does? It was very scale-like with this setup, especially on a calm day.

If I ever did another GWS A-10, it would definitely at least be with lithiums, if not also brushless motors. But don't be afraid of a NiHM pack. Mine flew fine.

Mine flies fine on a stock setup....9.6v 1150mah NIMHs. She isn't super fast but flies just great.
