r/c dawg,
It will be quite awhile, (early springtime), before I get to building it, got other projects in the works. I'm sure others will.

Ok, my local Hobbytown got 2 Taylorcraft 450's today. I walked in 30 minutes after they arrived! Now they only have one!

I've started building it. I haven't gotten to the engine yet...

Here are my choices:

all e-flites

A Park 450 w/ 20 amp ESC

A park 480-910 w/40 amp ESC

A park 480-1020 w/40 amp ESC

Which do I choose?

And yes due to unforeseen difficulties at my local flying field a couple engines became available for installation in other projects, cough, cough...

I'm leaning towards the 450 to fly it scale. Its such a beautiful airplane I may just want to do fly by's and admire it.

However it does look a little heavy maybe the 480-910 would be a better choice? (except that putting a bigger motor would just make it heavier! doh!)

Then again should I just go for it and put the mighty Park 480-1020 on it?

If I get no input I may just start small and work my way up...

I started with a mini pulse XT 450, it was fun, but wasn't great till I put the 480-1020, but it was just a wee bit too much, it flew very well with the 480-910. Kind of a Goldilocks and 3 bears story..ahhh and this one is just right...

I'm thinking of getting this plane for a future build. I have an Axi 2217/16 motor; would that fit this plane without any modifications? E-flite's page says that the firewall was essentially built for their 450 or 480 motors.

I have a 2808/20 that I used on a mini ultra stick, the E-Flite motor mount fit my AXI 2808/20 no problem

I just got mine today also, from my local place of employment on Saturdays. Mine had a cracked firewall, due to a shipping company using some boxes as steps, no matter, it was an easy fix. I just finished getting it prepped for assembly by sealing the edges with a trim iron and in some places, like around the windows and wing center sections..a little thin CA. Overall, it is a beautiful kit of high standards. I can honestly say that the cowling and wheel pants are perfect, no overspray or webbing due to the mask being pulled of too early. It is a great value at $109 + change. As for powering it, I am going for the 480 1020kv, but I will not fly this like a pylon racer.

I've got a 480/910kv and a APCE 11X5.5 waiting for this one. I could hover a MFX with it, I'm pretty certain this will be plenty of power.

MY LHS seems to have dropped the ball once again - he tells me that the Taylorcrafts aren't shipping until the 23rd but we know that isn't true. Oh well, I guess I'll have to work on some other model this weekend

Sad, but I have a similar story. A very small LHS very close to home...more into RC cars...no big deal. They have dropped the ball a couple times with me now. Forgetting/losing orders etc. Sadly, once the last few things I have on order with them come in, they lose. And they tell me I'm one of their best costomers. I guess I'll just drive to an LHS further from home or order online.

In the manual on page 38, it states "If using the Park 480 motor please use the throttle respectively. This is a high power setup which can easily push the model to a high speed envelope. Ensure you reduce throttle during any downline maneuvers."

Depending on propeller airspeed pitch.....I can pump lots of Watts for thrust but, if the model has a low enough pitch speed for the selected propeller diameter then, it would not hurt the airframe as it will not attain that limit stress with air pressure.

This is the reason I selected the Mega Model BirdDog over the new E-Flite TaylorCraft 450. As much as nice looking the TaylorCraft was I did NOT like the rather light and honeycomb frontal Fuse construction (motor mounting) in comparison to the Mega Models BirdDog.

I like to fly scale but, occasionally I like to pace my models into some mild Sport manuevers and having a stronger constructed RC Model is what I need.

Guys, be advised:
Page 38 of the manual states "If using the Park 480 motor please use the throttle respectively. This is a high power setup which can easily push the model to a very high speed envelope. Ensure you reduce throttle during any downline maneuvers."
