USS Brooks (APD-10) in 1/96 scale

Just finished taking some "glamor" pix of my USS Brooks built from WHU four piper fiberglass hull, all the rest scratch except for guns, Microglass landing craft on davits, usual fittings. I had intended to take it to St Louis regatta today but trip got scratched.

Home made dual ESC allows independent throttle for each screw using Robbe F-14 radio. Crewmen on deck & bridge add character.

You bet she did. I've corresponded with several remaining crewmembers who are part of the Green Dragons Association and the book "The Famed Green Dragons" by Curt Clark, CWO3, USN Ret. is a volume full of history of these great ships and even greater men!

One of the neatest things about your model is the color; I had no idea that green was used on US Navy ships - you just can't get the feel for something like this from the b&w photos and movies of the era. I have watched the Victory at Sea series many times. I learned that some of the b&w footage was originally shot in color. I suppose the program did not produce the original colors since TV was all b&w in the 1950's.

Nice unit history of an APD, the USS Ward, a flush decker converted like the Brooks, I imagine.

Yep, the USS Ward was the ship that attacked a Japanese submarine within Pearl Harbor channel on Dec 7, 1941 just before the planes attacked. Fired the first shots of WWII in that context.
