My scratch built

Hello everybody, this is my first post in this section. I've been working on a scratch built aerobatic plane. I call it the 3D Stick (unless its already taken), kinda resembles the lite stick though. It's powered by a 370 motor, 7.75 ratio, 10x4.7 prop 14% thick symmetric airfoil, 4 channels. Covering is SoLite brand. Most of the parts were from Wood was ordered from . Notice that it looks like there are only a few ribs, but I actually used "half ribs" which are hidden below the 1/64" plywood covering the leading section of the wing. Notice also the built up ailerons, very light 5.5g each. If I had to do it over I would have used balsa or CF instead of ply. It added something like 80 g to the weight!

I test flew it today in very windy conditions ( 15 mph+ ). I was only planning to do a test hop, but it took off so flawlessly, I said what the heck and gave it full. Battery was a 3x 1020 LiPo. My guess is its pulling around 6A so it was a bit much for this pack, hence flight was quite under powered. I tested it tonight on a 3 x 2070, and it had thrust to weight ratio greater than one. However, there was not enough ailron to overcome torque. Oh well maybe on the next version.

Enjoy the pictures!

Yes, definately use balsa instead of ply wood. It is so much lighter, and the vast majority of your strength actually comes from the film anyway.

If those wings were only half as heavy, your roll rate would be twice as fast. Look at the threads on Todd's 'Tiny' or 'Tiny-X', or 'Mr. Bones' to see how little structure you really need.

If nothing else, this one should be durable! Keep at it!
