Even getting a Typhoon in the air was a real problem - the engine was notoriously bad at starting and / or seizing its sleeve valves.

Anybody got any drawings or pics that show the reinforcement plates? Might as well make it look scale and put them on the model too!

The early version MK1A didn't have reinforcement plates in the tail

PS Will post some profiles once I get home

Awwwwwww rats!!! ran out of wood and glue!!! Now I gotta drive 75 mile to get some. So in the down time I'm working on designing my electric Sopwith Snipe, 48" span. Makes for a good size model at that scale!

The Typhoon was used for ground target attack and they would dive bomb or chase the FW190 which used a typical dive away from the Spits and other British fighters as they could dive faster. They never figured out what caused the tails to be shed until a test pilot was able to bring one back that started cracking. They then made up and installed the fish scale style reinforcing plates and were able to stop it from becoming tailless.

The Tiffie is one of my favorite planes.

Not much at work but I have some at home. There is a single survivor of the Typhoon 1B in Britian. has some photos of it.

Most of the Typhoons (all later variants) had the black and white invasion stripes (broad black and white) and a yellow leading edge to the wings outboard of the landing gear. I have specs of which did and didn't.

I prefer the 1B so most if not all of my pics are on that variant.

The plastic kit was well done so I included a couple of that one. Having the armament hanging off it was eye candy, especially for the display models...
The Pulverizer II plastic kit wasn't as well done...

There isn't a ton of selection for the Typhoon as the operational life was fairly short. Being pushed out by the Tempest.

Geez, wonder if anyone would notice if I painted it up like a B variant?

Nice model! What scale is it (please don't say 1/72... )

They are both the Revell 32nd scale kits. MR ? is of course the far better quality build than the I8 P model. The nose detail for the radiator from the museum model is the first detail shot in the pictures above... Looks like the models have something a little extra or the the museum plane is missing something.

Okay Mr. Xterarc,
Starting to put the side stringers in and I've noticed that the one rear former makes the side stringers bulge out farther down the fuse. I think this former is a little too wide compared to the one ahead of it and the one after it. I'll probably just sand it down a bit, but wanted to show you first.

Or is the former ahead of it too narrow???

hmmmm... yeah i see it does appear to bow in just before that one , then bows out ...

ohhh another gremlin is it
It appears that the third from the right is a bit narrower, but sanding the second from right will make things looks right, go for it.

PS Attached are the colour profiles from the excellent Monografie lotnicze (Hawker Typhoon) series CZ.1, yes there is a cz.2
