Carbon rods vs balsa stringers

The subject says it all, really. If you're building a model that's former/stringer construction, and there's a lot of 1/16" sq or 3/32" sq stringers, how does carbon rod compare to this? Obviously it's MUCH stronger and thus you can go smaller, but how is the weight between the two?

I didn't replace all of the stringers with cf, just a couple of them.
Doubt it will make much diff one way or the other.

Good thought Martin. As a side benefit they would require no sanding to make the covering look good over them. Cost might be the limiting factor though.

carbon rod is heavy

I have built a few primitive box fuses from carbon rod

I use 1.5 mm epoxy board for bulk heads and 2 or three mm
carbon rod

usually glue with cyano followed up by epoxy

Then skin the lot with depron

Plastics are usualy 2.5 times heavier than plywoods and so are a lot heavier than balsa so it is nessary to reduse the size and amount of stringers drastically

It comes out about the same weight sometimes lighter but
use of eifell tower balsa or carbon stiffner diaganols makes them
probably 50 times more resistant to twist loads and probably 5 times sronger in most other loads

In crashes prone to ungluing but repairs are super rapid and can usualy fly again within cyno drying times

It hard to do very complex shapes so would not be keen to advise doing scale subjects untill you have built and crashed several more primitive box fuselage types first as the methods of construction require a lot more thinking and planninnig but when thats out of the way the building times are considerably faster than balsa

Fly low and fast and crash again
