Happy DX8!

I've read that the CX FBL head has really short arms - think it was TexasClouds pointed it out.

My dog will be happy when everyone has used up their fireworks!

I wonder if KY has changed it yet. Looked like someone there just put a kit together not realizing the normal pro blade grips are different from the fbl ones.

ewood, I am going the other way. Started to build from ordered parts a 450pro for my third 3x1000

well, no flying, the winds are howling and tonight artic air is supposed to leave us 2-4" with more in persistent snow bands, that generally means we will get more than most

I built my $18 wonder, it is ready for shakedown flights then I will install the bent boom for the UH-1, more flight tests then the fuse. With the weather, no telling how long that will take.

There appear to be two different copterX FBL heads, I ordered this one for $19 without swash and main shaft, same one with swash and shaft is ~$49, they also have another for $29, I think after taking this one apart I will order the $49 for all future FBL 450s I will compare this with my RXT head to see if the arms are shorter/longer or what

The 3X1000 is sooooooooo easy to set up, it will be interesting to see how it flies.

Hope everyone is getting air

Thanks for posting the pics, Ed! It's interesting to see the bolt-on arms on that FBL head - it would make it easy for them to revise the arm length.

And we can add blade grip arm length to maximum servo driving frequency as the must-know info for 2012!

Flown 2 packs on my first FBL converted 450, and 2 packs with my new night blades i just finished.
This 450 with the lights really screams for an FBL upgrade. Its flies so crappy at the moment i barely dare to do a roll....

I build them in about 4 evenings.
Strips of copper tape and soldered in resistors and 0805 SMD LED's. Final finish with automotive clear coat and carwax.

Whilst the UK suffered hurricane force winds today, we had crisp, cool, still air this morning. Three packs on the HK 450 Pro, first flying at HS2400 for close to 8 minutes, then HS2600 for 7, and HS2800 for 5:30. What a great governor mode the Superbrain ESC has....!

Edit: after checking the data logs for this mornings flights, it looks like there's less peak amps and a lot more voltage drop in the Zippy packs under load when the weather is cold - it was probably about 40f.

Flew my 250 for one pack and my trusty old tail servo burned up.
can't be to mad that poor servo had been on 2 450's and ended up
on my 250 only because the servo I got for it had to be returned.

5 packs this morning, in perfect, still, cool air and sunshine. I am just amazed at the performance of the CX 3x1000 FBL controller. I still need to work on the tail, but got rid of a right swing on positive pitch pumps by adding 20% collective to tail compensation. So easy to do at the field with the program box!

Having started out on the beginner model, #1, I decided to try #5, the "Extreme" model. Whew! I have never been able to get my HK 450 Pro to flip as fast with FB! I had to put in 30% expo on cyclic, and 80% rates in normal mode.

It seems like I can get the heli to flip and roll faster at HS2700 than I ever could at even 3000 with the flybar.

The tail is still loose, but I have some slop and a bit of binding to sort out before I fool around with the various gains.

Welcome to the FBL world! I had exactly the same experience about the speed of cyclics on my MT with ÁBeast. I dropped HS to around 2400-2600 and still have quite fast cyclics - much faster than 3000+ and very quick TT's green flybar paddles... With lower HS it is far less intimidating and as performant (less tic/tocs and similar)...

BTW I'm hoping that I'll be able to fly today. Started feeling withdrawal symptoms - didn't fly since Monday!!!
