Even at 100% throttle at launch, torque roll on these mid-mount motor planes is nonexistant, even on my little buggers. Grab the spine ahead of the motor, go full throttle, then toss it up at a 45 angle and off you go!

Here is yesterday's maiden of my Blue Angels Coroplast F-22

She seems more responsive than my first one - don't know if that's due to the couple of ounces shaved or the lack of a KF-m step.

I guess it'll be a tad underpowered then: 2200x3 > 3000x2.
I forgot to mention I do use a 6x4 apc prop, gives about 390 grams of thrust and draws 20 amps.
I was hoping to be able to upgrade to 3s when the time came I got comfortable with the speed, but forgot to check if the motor was spec'd for it.
oh well, time for some more early christmas shopping.

I come from 1/8th scale truggy racing, where most parts cost the same as an entire plane, so i'm a kid in a 1 cent candy store!

Well Jeez, if you want to spend some money in modelflying, that wouldn't have to be a problem. But here you're in one of the more "easy on the money" threads. And that's why we are all here!

Well obviously , I am and always will be a cheap Dutch bastard

I got some carbon bars for the wings today, when I'm sobered up from the freedom day festival it'll go in and it's time for that wonderful struggle with gravity.

Also noticed I won't be supporting the not-so-local hobby shop by buying batteries from them. Almost 40 euros for a 3s 25c 1600 mah is a bit steep I think

Jeez:
Try what you have...meaning the 3000kv 2s motor and 6x4 prop. I was mainly speaking of torque and was trying to communicate that with the recommended motor and prop on 3s, you will not have any probs with torque. On another setup...one that isn't common on this plane...who knows? With that said, a high hv motor and smallish prop should work fine.

let us know how it goes.

Mostly low 'n slow today.

The one speed pass I did came out to 52 MPH on the WAVEoScope .....

Maiden today went very well, and very bad.
First two flights were a dream! Torque roll and power were both complete non-issues :-)

However, I suffered another radio glitch, resulting in a crumpled and detached nose. It flew just fine without it though. I think my radio might be faulty (DX6i), because the range test loses signal at four meter distance :-(. With normal transmitter power it stops at about 50-70 meter.
I'll have a look into that, doesn't seem okay to me.

Anyhow, movie time:
F-22 profile parkjet maiden flight (1 min 34 sec)


Bottom side of the fuse is made from two layers of 3 mm isofast. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than depron, and more flexible, which helped with the warping on the side panels.

Also, I used a flat piece of carbon for wing support, because it's easier to slot it into the wing in my opinion. All it takes is a cut in the wing, some hobby glue on both sides of the carbon plank, and drop it in the slot.

Next up is rudders, to aid in high alfa :-D

Also: I cannot thank enough for this design! It'll be difficult to build a different model next time :-D

While we're waiting to hear how Gerrit's maiden went ....

Here's a pair of Coroplast F-22's from yesterday.

Note the side launch method we prefer (at the very beginning of the video), over the underhand toss method. Keeps your fingers & arms well away from that 6X4 meat grinder. Too many horror stories & nasty pictures out there .......

The continuing story of the Red Bull Raptor


Well Folks, it didn't turn out so well ...

The pictures are taken just before the first flight on a stand. Photoshop took away the stand.

The reality is different. Here is the video

first flight powerfull Red Bull Raptor and crash (4 min 2 sec)



What I never could imagine happened: I switched the ailerons. Left was right and right was left. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The flight took only two seconds or so and the Raptor ended up in two pieces.

I'm glad I made those pictures first .....

I'm repairing now and I hope it will fly next weekend. The damage isn't that bad, but the work has to be done though.

Lesson this week: check your ailerons and doubelcheck your ailerons, and your elevator and your rudder before you take off.
