GyroNow that's something that I have not thought of yet That would definitely make things interesting and it's possible all your worries would be gone Try it and let us know

As far as Gyro's go I've got them on most of my RTF/ARTF foamies (cheap'o gain e-sky gyro for 8gbp).
However I would never put it on any of my balsa/composite models? 600-700gbp in the air all dependant on cheap 5-8gbp component - thanks but no thanks! Probably the most stupid thing you can do!

I've used gyros for smaller lighter models to stabilize them in windy weather - bigger birds like this can handle that kind of wind much easier and if the wind is too big and you need a gyro - I don't think you should take off in the 1st place!

General question however - did any one ever try using a good heading lock gyro for ailerons like this futaba one?

Um, if you're coming from helicopter land you'd have no hesitation about the reliability of a good gyro. There is zero to worry about on that front, and the helis are far more expensive than this Cessna.

But gyro setup... oh boy, that could be painful.

Well that is why we have forums, To ask questions and get feedback from people with experience. SO If I understand the logic. Cheap planes fly better with a gyro? And a plane that should be more responsive don't work well with a gyro?? Isn't the idea the gyro would just help compensate for maybe the Torque? I have not tried it, Just have read about it on gliders and other planes. Didn't know it was a bad idea for something like this.

CG balance

Hallo, I'm finishing the CMPro Cessna 182 40 and is the most tail-heavy I've never built-up; some 9.5 oz. unbalanced with the CG 70 mm. from the root leading edge wing as stated in the instruction book (68-73 mm.). Saito 50 engine
What should I do?

Here was my solution. I added 7 oz. in self sticking tire balance weights to the engine mount. Don't buy these in the small hobby packs. It's a rip-off. Go to a tire store and see if they'll sell you some. They are dirt cheap. The store I went to actually gave me a pound for free when I told them what they were for.
It doesn't really help to add weight to a plane that is already heavy but there really isn't any way I saw to reduce weight back by the tail.

Oh and notice the missing nose gear on mine. That robart strut is very strong. Had a hard landing and the gear ripped out of the firewall with no damage to the nose strut. So that brings me to my question. Anybody done a taildragger conversion? I am planning to fix the nose gear but recently considered a conversion since I mostly fly off grass.

That looks like it would be a pretty easy fix on that firewall. I think fiberglass is easier to work with then balsa. Just a lot more messy!

CG and nose gear CMP Cessna 182 50

First of all many thanks and I'll add the tire balance weights. See the nose gear installed in my plane. Do you think it could be enough to resist hard landings?

If anyone of you guys is doing an electric conversion and using an custom motor mount like me and Andrew here - I wrote the steps here for calculating the offset of the motor mount to get the right down thrust and left thrust angles right and still get the shaft coming out of the middle:

So I have looked through the tread.. The robart Strut keeps comming up. I know a few other guys have found different options.. Anyone else feel there are better cost effective places to get this??

This is my setup - I made a motor mount out of 1/4" steel plate and placed the battery as far forward as possible. All this weight in front is needed for the proper CG.
