Need a new BL motor for ECO 8 on 8 cells

I've been running a Kontronik BL480-33 on 8 cells, mainly because I had it already. This motor is a little hot for the ECO, even on 8 cells. As I have a bunch of 8 cell, RC-3000 NiMH packs I'd like to stick to 8 cells. However, maybe in the future I'll have more 10 cells packs so I wouldn't mind keeping my options opens.

I've read Tohru's site countless time, played with the eHeli spreadsheet for hours and I've come up with a couple of choices. I'm looking for sport flying and as my skills progress I'd like to get into mild aerobatics.

1. B40-12L, 10 tooth on 8 cells.
2. B50-18S, 13 tooth on 8 cells.
3. B50-22S, 16 tooth on 8 cells, 13 tooth on 10 cells.

Any opinions?

I'm just hovering now. I expect I'll be a sport flier. Based on how I fly fixed wing, I don't think I'll get into 3D. I will be flying with 8 cells for now though.

What do you think of the Fun 500-21 (KV=2180, Rm=25.8, Io=1.0)?

I dont' know about the new Kontronik motor, but it should work fine. Exactly speaking,
it may be little mild for 8cells sport flights. Rather, the motors which have KV=2500-3500 around 150-180g will be better for 8cells acro heli.

(Be careful of the ECO8's setable gear ratio)

Well, I ordered the Fun 500-21. It should be here on Thursday. I'll have a flight report shortly.

Ben Diss-san,

8cells may be also good. But, please try 10cells with 13-14T gear for acro.

A man with too many toys

What type of flying do you do Hover, Sport Aerobatics, or 3D.

I would recommend the following:
B40-14L with 12t pinion for 10-cells and 15t for 8-cells (14t for longer duration flights)

This is a good setup for both 8 and 10 cells. Power enough for aerobatics and limited 3D.
