Munky:
I had a 36" wingspan regal, which is the largest I get in my car. Mine was the extended version which is more of a sport plane as the regular version is probably closer to 3D version. The difference is ext. the plane is a little longer with the same wingspan. I had this for about 6 months and liked it except for one problem I could not overcome. After every turn the plane would lose a lot of altitude. I know losing altitude is normal without extra throttle and/or elevator, but this was not a normal drop. Design problem or builder/operator error? Who knows, but if I were I betting man I would choose the latter or the two. Gary |

This is the motor he used. I am using the same motor in my build, but I am using a 10/4.7 prop instead of an 11. Mine is still in the build phase. |

Has anyone put together a set of plans for the original Regal with a 33" wing span?

Not to worry, I shrunk a regular set of plans in the copy machine.

Another Regal Flies
I got the plans shrunk in the copy machine so I now have a Regal with a 30" wing span.
I built the plane as per the shrunken plans witht the exception of the width of the fuselage. This I made with an internal dimension of 1 3/4". This allowed for easier installation of the battery. The next change was to move the battery area to the top of the fuselage for easier access. As it turned out this was good as I had to move the battery back alot. I used a Heads Up R/C Sport 400 motor. This made the nose heavier. The trade off is there is no lack of power. This thing will go straigt up and just keep going. Power Heads UP 400 Sport 1050KV ESC Heads Up 20 Amp Prop APC look alike 8-4 Servos HXT 900 Battery Hobby City 1300ma The flight performance is fast, quick and fun. It is way more responsive than anything I have flown to date. I started out with the control rates set quite low but decided it was easier to handle with slightly higher rates. Now I can get in and out of trouble equally fast I do believe this plane, in the smaller size, probably flies faster than the original 40" wingspan. I may try the larger build at a later date. |

questions
I know this has been here awhile, I just found it.
Am building regular Regal but with 3/8 pink foam, since this is all I have, at the moment. Currently I think the weight will be just at 30OZ. I am going to use 2 servos for the airlerons, as I think as I get better, I might try the flaps. I know this is on the heavey side, so with the faster approach, I thought the flaps migtht help. I am using Heads up sport 450, which is suppose to push about 37 oz of thrust.\ Trying to make this a winter/snow flying plane, Will cut way back on the throws, until I am comfortable. Any thoughts, or guaidance would be greatly appreciated. |
