Build a 7S2P A123 Pack With Balancing Taps

Hi all,

I recently put together a Hyperion 85" Yak 54 that I am running on 14S A123s. So far, I love the plane, the way it flies and I am really liking the batteries. Anyway, I've been getting a lot of questions about how to build the packs from local guys, and I remember when I started this project I had to search all over to find all the info I wanted so I thought I would post a little how to.

Disclaimer: I am not a battery genius or expert! There are probably better and neater ways to build a pack like this. So, if you know any of them share with us please...

id try 1p with a smaller prop and see how it goes or even experiment with higher cell count with 1p if you can. i bet you could still get 8 minutes and shead a pound.

I am doing another 30% Yak (SD models) with a bud and we are going to try 16s 1p and see how it works out.

I am very happy with the above setup though! The batteries weigh 39 oz a piece (4.87 lbs), the motor and ESC weighs 1.8 lbs for a total of 6.67 pounds. That, in my mind, makes it a pretty even conversion for any DA50 powered/sized plane.

know it all
Have you done a thread on the plane itself?..

I try to use as much of the existing tabs as possible.. they can handle up to 100amps so they are good. I just made several 10s1p packs in a straight configuration, only had to use 3 bars per pack, and a mess of balancing wires

Not yet, but there is a thread on it in the giant plane section already. Maybe if I can get some good video this weekend I will start a thread for the A123 powered version.

What you want to do is get the e-Station Dual Link cable. This connects the 2 e-Station PB-6's together. This will keep both packs perfectly balanced to each other. The Cable is $4.95.

Very good idea! However, one of those balancers is a pb5. I suppose I could upgrade
