take off with gyro?

If I was to use a heading hold gyro on the rudder would this help with rolling takeoffs in a slight wind. Idea being the rudder will continue to point the nose in the dirrection it is locked onto?

Several year ago QF/SEM had an article “Taming the Tail” where both a Gyro and Switch was used in the like of a big Cub.

Both products in the article were from Cirrus/Global/Hobby People.

I didn’t have much luck with their Gyro (use Futaba) and the switch works great in my H-9 80” converted Cub.

The switch is used to turn the Gyro’s function on/off – on for take-off, off the rest of the flight.

But, its no longer available.

Nice feature, probably better gyros today; and other folks use Gyros on other controls too.

Best if you can manage the rudder!

It could work, The plane would stay straight although you might still get some drift on your roll.

it seems like the left thumb is the hardest thing to train. I'm working on coordinated turns. I've been doing high speed taxi tests at work, so my ground steering is getting a little better.

Interesting idea though. Assuming you have a steered wheel, that would have to be out of the picture before this would take effect. So it would have to be rotate, rudder, gyro on, take off. Lots of work at a relatively stressful point in the flight

It would work just fine, exactly like a helicopter. Something like a Futaba GY240 would work well. A more expensive GY401 could be controlled from the radio.
