Scott...
I'm totally new here, as to flying but im reading up alot and learning. What you were talking about when you need to level out your plane sounds like you might be use to a trainer with a dihedral main wing. I hear this naturally helps level the plane. The F&L has 0 degrees of dihedral. Someone please correct me, I learn from my mistakes, thats why im building a foamie! |

The F&L is more of an intermediate aircraft so kudos to you being able to fly it so well. Many people learn to fly with elevator & rudder first, then learn to fly with ailerons, and then toy with an elevator & ailerons only aircraft. A typical mix is with aileron and rudder to help in the turns. I would NOT recommend mixing ailerons and elevator simply because once you are inverted you will have the wrong throws applied. Imagine flying a straight line upside down....if you begin your roll, you actually want "down" elevator applied to keep the nose pointing into the sky. If you mix in "up" elevator, she's gonna point to the ground. In effect, you'd be mixing in a barrel roll. You're better off learning to add controls manually and get a good feel of the aircraft. I do see what you are hoping to achieve...but as the member before me indicated, this aircraft has NO dihedral. It wants to fly in one direction all the time. It'll never "right" itself up. Good for you on your successful flights. Please post some pics, video, and more information about your experience for other readers (and newbies). -Lee |

Thanks for the advice and after figuring out how to mix I did decide that I do need the experience in controlling the plane as much as possible. I did have a little laugh though yarsmythejr at your comment about flying inverted. If I did do that at this point then it would be totally by accident and it would be headed to the ground anyway. This plane is really fun to fly and easy to build. I will post pictures when I can. I did make one change though and that was to put extra fibre tape on the wings on the top side right along the same line as the K foil which is on the bottom of the wing. I also added it along the fuse where it meets the wing. I noticed on a previous meetings with the ground that these are the 2 areas that suffer the most stress.

Flew 2 batteries worth again today and it went great. Althouth this probably is not a plane for beginners like myself but for about $5 worth of foam you can build them over and over again. What I did was put in a BM2410-08t motor with a 11-4.7 prop. This combo is best suited for a slow flyer and will keep the speed down until I get more experienced. It does not allow for any fancy manoeuvers but flys at a comfortable speed. I did notice that it was a lot more responsive yesterday in 5 - 10 m winds then today where there was no wind at all. I am planning to put in a BM 2409-18t with a 9-4.5 prop next when my comfort level inceases.

I also have one of those I can install and look forward too in the future. Still going to walk before running though. I have also built, I think it is jet44's F-14 with the movable swept wings but scared to death to fly it. I think it will collect dust for a long while yet.

Jim: On a personal note my wife and I are going to Florida at the end of the month and will be spending time in Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and Daytona. Any suggestions on hobby shops I should visit? The wife should be in a good mood so I want to strike while the iron is hot.

I can't recommend a shop around those areas - I live in the Tampa area. From what I have seen, Fla hasn't really caught the electric bug. Most shops carry big glow slimers. Eventually they will learn the "Power of the Volt!" Jim |

The new kid in town!
Hope you don't mind the off-topic message...but I wanted all of you to see my newest creation!
His name is Ryan Ray...born July 11th @ 12:42p. Weighed in at a healthy 8 lbs, 2 oz. (What motor/prop/battery combo do I need for this setup?) He's doing fine...and so is Momma. Daddy, on the other hand, is in some serious shock. It all came flooding down on me yesterday that I have TWO boys to support in this hobby. Which one is going to make me shell out the big bucks for the .60 sized electric helicopter??? Cha Ching!! Anyway, here's the photo-op. Can't wait to get him home to his room surrounded with Daddy's planes. Cheers, -Lee |

funder
Congratulations Tony
After me and the grandson have been flying the dickens out of the funder & lghtning he decided he HAD TO have a twin verison of it. So here is the start of the ------------- ya'll help me name it. The wing span is 47.5in. KFm4 I thinks its called for the airfoil . I got 20 used arrows for $5 from a guy. Still working on the tail, first plan was ditched. What do you think I should use for power? Thinking of using 2 TP2S1350 lipos, one on each boom for each motor on 7.2V for bigger props. Help me out here. The kid(14yrs) is fired up and ready to go. Oh I almost forgot, he MUST have retracts. Thanks Harold |
