That's exactly right! (LMAO), Really like your "Full Booms" will do that on my next one!! My first one flew great!!! It was a few years ago when I was still learning!! had a servo failure, and she went in hard!!! Would be nice to have another now that I know what I'm doing!!!

COX .049 Funder & Lightning!

I’m heading to an R/C event on Thursday in Arkansas called SMALL (see thread here on RCG). I have most of my planes ready to go but wanted to bring a COX .049 model ‘cause that seems to be the hot item at SMALL. I have the engine, an RC Bee, but no plane. I was going to build up a balsa version of the F&L due to the whole: Fuel + Foam = No longer foam. But then I thought, what if I could completely seal the foam with covering??

I grabbed a spare roll of TowerKote (aka Econokote) and tested a piece of CF88. It sticks great - even better than I expected (see photos).

So here I go! I’m taking my standard CF88 foam F&L and turning it into a gasser! Don’t tell the “Foamy Electric” admins. 😜

More pics and stories to come.

I am a nice guy! Really!
I guess if you can get by with lower performance you could put a fuel burner on the nose. Folks have been making nitro powered foamboard airplanes for years befor E-power became so capable. Fuel proofing is the key. Even balsa is not fuel proof by itself.

Exactly. I’ve been flying glow for many years and lost a few planes to frame fuel saturation. Never tried covering CF88 for fuel so should be interesting. I plan to roll a thin layer of epoxy around the entire perimeter/edges.
