Ailerons work well and are not disturbed by the new wing profile.Today was very cold, so I did not test any plane.
F & L 2 and 3 wait good weather.

Here is my first attempt. She is pretty tail heavy, so that will be fixed along with the new prop and motor mount.
I used Dollar Tree foam, and built her with a 40" wingspan. I laminated 3 pieces together for the fuselage, and 2 pieces for the verticals under the horizontal stab. AUW is 19.11 oz with a 3s 1800mah battery. I will get her all painted when I get her flying well.

Thanks to everbody on this thread for all your wisdom, and especially yarsmythejr for the original design.

I'm running a Power Up 400 slofly motor, 28mm 1.8oz 930KV. With a 9x6 APC prop/ which should be good for ~26oz thrust.
ESC- 22 amp HURC
and a 3s 1800 mah 30C DBY Battery
for servos I'm using Power Up 9g sub-micro servos
I got all that stuff from www.headsuprc.com
Hope that helps.

And I'm going to try and see if I can add 2 or less oz to the nose (between the motor stick and top fuselage) before I try shortening up the booms. But thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the encouragement,
Lincoln

I have never built an F&L, Linc, but I've read a lot abt the planes... easy to add weight, and that could tell you quickly if CG is the problem, yet all accounts lead me to believe the model will fly better if lighter. I guess you could shave the booms on the sides???

and 'they' have said it's ez to bend those long motor prop shafts in a tractor config...

10-4 on both points Rusty. My first was a fail but the next will be lighter.

Tnx Raften! :-)

Well, as an armchair commando, I've had opportunity to read up on many problems others have encountered, and some of what they learned has sunk in...

SO, when I am able to get components and build my first airship, it will fly like a demon escaping the gates of hades, right? lol

Yah, right... lol

I did built up wings years ago, and it's a real setback to see 'em impact something.

Sometimes, the 'foamie bounce' is even entertaining!

Funder & Lightning 3 - 120 cm(47.2 in) maiden flight

Looks like 4001 is the lucky number for me .Today was a lucky day for F & L 3.
Maiden flight was a success. He flies like a dream and he have very good gliding capabilities. Thanks again for the plans.
I do not understand why smaller version 25 " not fly properly.I have to build another one and see what happens.
Funder & Lightning 3 - 120 cm(47.2 in) maiden flight (6 min 19 sec)

47.2" with all electronics + battery 2S 2200 = 29.55 oz
About 6 minutes of flight time consuming 1183 of 2200.
Next time I will try with a 2650 3S battery and 9x5 propeller.

Wow!
It looks COLD in Sibiu, Huffy!

ALL these vids are encouragement for me to make bigger profile, paint in contrast colors to background, and seek video advice to avoid .dot in sky. movies...

I also find out bigger versions are more stable than there smaller ones, not only for F&L, for most of the other planes I build.
