Basics and feedback
Well I have got the basic information; to the best of my knowledge; posted in the first several threads.
For the many experts out there, this would be a good time to check out the information posted for accuracy and completeness. If you disagree, think something is not clear, something needs further illustration, or think something is missing just let me know and I will edit the thread as reuired. There are a lot of typos and poor grammar, and misssppppelledd wworddds. I'm trying to clean them up. If I missed any just pm me to let me know where. Any good epp plans out there for the beginner builder, beginner flyer? I have wondered how many flyers dropped the hobby because their first flight of about .3 seconds was also there last flight... ending in a crash and a destroyed craft? Thanks for the many contributions so far!!! Keep em coming! Dan |

Dan, That's Tomcor's Cutlass. It's a scratchbuilt and I don't know of any plans for it (although that could be arranged )

FIK Gliders
Not true scratch building but, for the first time builder a very nice way to start. Proven design, airfoil wings and one of my favorite adjectives cheap!!!!
Just the bare foam so you have to design your own electronics. Lots of FIK help out there. http://www.ncweb.com/biz/dan/Planes.html Keep scrolling down they are there. |

Lots of FIK threads on RCGroups
My FIK 80 flys great with a Blu 24G Try www.Flyingwings.co.uk Stop press they anounced a V tail R/c pusher at Wingsnwheels ,not on the web site yet. Rob told me it would exclusive to Flyingwings, as it was made to his design. Its made for them by the FIK people. It looks very good. |

Smart Dart Plans
Here is a link to Gene Bond's Smart Dart. A good beginner plane; easy to build and fly; with surprising capability. I have even seen a photo of one flyer hovering his (non epp) Dart
Not originally designed as an epp plane, but several have built this design from epp and have loved it. Here is a link to the plans with several variations: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...1&postcount=60 Here is a link the the Smart Dart's thread. Contains some nice video links. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...ighlight=plans |

Lead , we've been flying the EPP Smart Dart for some time now .... one of our favorite planes , and being EPP is "BouncyFloaty"...Hovering is easy , just move the cg back a bit ... the best thing about hovering the Dart is when it goes over the top (inverted as happens sometimes) it will automatically roll out and self correct ... no more hovering disasters...Ours has the Aquarider fuselage , which is just PERFECT for this plane ...
MS has a dart CUB with a yellow Aquarider fuse that looks pretty realistic... sorta' ... for a dart anyway... |

While we're talking Darts, here's a couple of links to a mid-motor EPP version I built. A nice easy way to build wings with dihedral from EPP and a great fun flyer!

Great flying! Did you have to modify the design to accomodate the epp; extra stiffening or anything? |

Cheers Dan, although i wouln't call it 'great' myself. The Darts pretty much sort themselves out if you get into trouble... let go of the sticks and they'll level out nicely.
I added a fair bit of carbon to that design due to the prop slot. I used my normal method of stiffening the main surfaces...3mm x 0.5mm cf strips on the LE of the wings, TE of the h/stab and v/stab. The wing is actually made from 3 sections of 9mm EPP glued together (butt joints). I made a 6mm deep cut along the length of the centre section (LE to TE) so that the EPP would bend easily to create the dihedral, and then glued a length of 1.5mm cf rod into the 'V' both sides of the prop slot which helped form the dihedral angle and also stiffen the fus. A piece of 8mm x 1mm cf strip was glued to the rear of the prop-slot to stiffen the fus vertically. Although carbon isn't cheap it's quite easy to recycle and use on another models when you fancy a change. Once you've removed it from the EPP the glue can be peeled or scraped off without too much effort. |
