p-40

motor mount crashed and prop hits the cowling..
but today flews again without cowling and landing gear!
without landing gear flews much better, fastest and more manovrability!
landing on grass..

A GWS 40 to honor a WWII American RAF Kittyhawk Pilot

I have more building than I can handle at the moment, but later on I will be building a GWS 40 I suspect and will airbrush it to look like the Kittyhawk Mk IA of the RAF 112 SQN based on Malta during WWII:

http://die-cast-army.over-blog.com/a...-19864271.html

Have a look at the camo schemes and the videos, impressive for a model web site

A relative of mine was a member of the 121 Eagle SQN in England flying Spitfires and after the USA entered the war most of the American pilots joined up with the US Army Air Force; however, my relative stayed with the RAF and transferred to Malta to fly the Kittyhawks. Unfortunately he was killed in action during a bombing and straffing attack on an Axis convoy as part of the Assault that Monte's forces made in south eastern Sicily (made famous during the movie "Patton") when George took Palermo and PO'd Monte. My relative was killed in the battle for Sicily under Monte's command. He is buried in an RAF cemetary not far from where he was killed.

To honor him and other Americans that joined with the RAF Eagle SQN's and later in the 112th on Malta, I will be building a GWS 40 to look like one he may have flown in with the "GA" markings and dessert camo with shark teeth.

Here's to Flight Warrent Officer Fred Vance, KIA RAF WWII, American

Hi Mike,

He must be a very great pilot.
Hope GWS P-40 could be good enough for honoring him and other American pilots !

Best Regards,
Chen

WO Fred Vance, RAF

Thank you for your compliment. He was just one of many heros. He stayed with the RAF because he wanted to be a pilot. The RAF had pilots that were not commissioned officers, at the time Fred was a Sergeant, but the US forces did not apparently. Had he transfered to a US organization he would have been grounded. So off to Malta he went. I am amazed that Malta was able to remain in Allied hands.

I'm looking into picking out the best components to give this P-40 the best possible scale performance and appearance. It will be my first detailed RC model that I build.

Good luck with GWS,

Mike

Best Deal?

Chen,

Can you or one of your vendors offer me a complete Radio Ready version of the GWS 40 with no paint (white)? I have seen a combo set, but it is painted. I am also interested in the EPO foam for durability. Would like a set up that is in the middle of the minimum to maximum power range.

Can you suggest someone I could buy everything I need from, that seems to be a problem.

I've been looking around for the best deal on this plane and components I need to buy to build it. Anyone else have a suggestion. I've seen some of the previoius links and may go back to one of them.

Mike

Regards,

Mike

Hi Mike,

There was a review of the GWS P40 on RCME (UK) and I beleive the GWS kit is not entirely to detail because the P40 had many variants through its life and the kit takes a 'typical' view. So I'm very happy with mine although still tinkering with the set up but maybe this version will not give be authentic enought for your detailed setup.

Regards

The most obvious aberration on this model in my opinion is the location of the exhaust stacks. They have obviously been moved back because of the plastic front of the cowl, but cutting the two rear stubs and gluing them onto the plastic cowl like mine below can easily fix this. Otherwise I think this is the most scale warbird GWS makes. Also the lighter it is the better it will fly. Good luck .

That spinner!

Hi marko_pu

I have just noticed the nice, what appears to be a NON FOAM red spinner. Could you let me know what type this is and what prop it fits as mine is trashed!

Thanks

Hello!
where can I find a retract landing gear for the GWS P40, with wheels pivoting back under the wing like on the real plane??? (if it's avalaible somewhere?)
Thank you very much,
