Has anyone glassed the inside of a cowl? Can be a bit rough as you won't even need to worry about how it looks.

I may try that on my 190 with Polycrylic if I can find some glass out in the garage. If it adds a little weight that would be fine as I have a half ounce of lead in the nose anyway.

Pat who do I contact to order the kit? I passed on the first few Early Birds but I do remember some peoples gripes about a secure way to order them.

Tommy,

If you've been previously signed up as an earlybird member before, then GWS should still have you on the distro list. Check your spam folder to see if the emails got trapped. There should have been one from Sunday night, and one tonight.

If nothing, email May at may1011@gws.com.tw.

I got them both and sent her a reply to both. So I assume she will send billing instructions?

Ouch! Shipping costs are going up! I'm still ordering one though (already have actually ).

Pat
I'm with the ouch too - the frustrating thing is that it's hard to understand why the P-40 shipping should be 43% higher than it was for the T-6 and worse still, at a total shipped value of $35 + $43, it's going to excite UK import duty of 17.5% - AND a duty collection charge - probably around around $26-30 extra so for a kit that is about the same price as the T-6 I'm going to end up paying 60% more . I'm also going to end up paying more than it would cost me to buy a fully painted Ultrafly P-40 shipped to my door. I'm disappointed about that. Unfortunately, because I want one and I don't want to wait until next year which is probably what it will take for the UK importer to have stock, I've had to order one, but I'm not happy about it.

Yeah, I'm not sure why shipping has gone up so much. Maybe Ray can shed some light here?

Tommy, if you've replied to May in the affirmative, then you should now receive an email with an invoice. Should be a few days.

If you are comparing the EMS postage to that on the AT-6 then maybe this photo will help explain the difference. The cost of the posage for these kits does not only depend on the weight of the box but it also depends on the volume of the box.

The box in the front is that in which my GWS AT-6 was shipped and the box in the rear is the GWS-190 shipping box. I expect the GWS-40 box to be as big or bigger that the GWS-190 box because the P-40 fuselage was bulkier than the FW-190 fuselage.

F.Y.I. My familly motto is "Dont throw it away it may come in usefull later"

I also hate to see higher shipping cost. that is why we always try to ship kits to Taiwan and mail to Early Birds. Also we try to make the box stronger to protect the items inside to ensure you got the product reach you safe and sound. I just hope you can get the product you want with the best service from GWS early bird program.

I also post some photos of GWS-40 painted version at #1 thread plus some pages from the manual. I hope you will be interested in these photos and info.

Thank you very much.

Your comments and suggestions are very helpful.

Someone said the tailfeathers were 1 piece was well. Not really reading up on the FW or SNJ but were they also build like this?

What I'm trying to say is the P-40 box might be pretty darn big.

The shipping is fairly inflated IMO when I consider what I have paid via EMS in the past. However when you figure in the cost of the model I want is $35 thats a steal for me.

Well, I was going to bite my tongue, but you guys know I just can't keep my big mouth shut...

The P-40 is my son's favorite airplane -- he likes the shark's mouth on the nose. Therefore, I have no doubt I will buy one.

However, I can't justify spending $43 for shipping when the airplane costs $35. For those of you who are math challenged, that comes to a total of $78 for a "no power system", "no paint" airplane!

At that price, I will wait two months for the P-40 to show up at Tower Hobbies, or a local hobby shop...
