2nd Annual Long Island Hand Launch Classic Aug 4 and 5

Afer you guys had a great time with Mark Drela and the guys at CRRC (they put on a fantastic contest 7/14 and 7/15!), I would like to cordually invite one and all to the second annual Long Island Hand Launch Classic.

This will be held on August 4th and 5th.

It was more affectionately know last year as
"The Rock and Roll You Chuck 'Em and You Chase 'Em Hand Launch Contest"
or just

"You Chuck 'Em and You Chase 'Em HLG Contest"

Come and you will see why! We have a 1800 by 1200 ft field with a nature preserve surround it. Great place to fly hand launch, TD, F3J( we hosted the team selection in 1999), etc..

Please check the ESL site for additional information:

I hope you can set aside the weekend for some fun, great competition and to meet a great bunch of guys!

Registration must be done prior to 7/28 so the LISFers and I can properly prepare for your attendance.

Please direct any questions to:
lisf_hlg_contest@hotmail.com or

I will be posting hotel information as I personally check them out this year.

Thank you and I hope to see you at the field!

Guys, I know there are some that like to be close to the field. The closest is

The Best Western Woodbury INN 1/4 mile from the field
7940 Jericho Turnpike US Woodbury, New York, 11797-1204, United States
Phone: 516-921-6900

from $125/night

the other is the Fairfield Inn by Marriot hotels about 1.5 miles
24 Oak Drive at Jericho Turnpike
Syosset, New York 11791 USA
Phone: 1-516-921-1111
Fax: 1-516-921-2858
Sales: 1-516-921-1111
Sales fax: 1-516-921-2858
from $125 - 139/night

photo tour:

We will be going for at least 9 rounds on Sat. and 7 rounds on Sunday with no round starting past 2 pm. I want you guys to have the best chance to get off the Island with the greatest of ease.

I am hoping that Mark Drela (2 day Polecat 2007 winner) and Jose Bruzual will be able to grace us with their presence again and I hear that Phil Barnes (international contestant and all around high launcher - great pilot) has indicated interest and is looking to challenge Mark for the top honors. Let's hope the three of them can make it as well as the other experts in the ESL to give them a run for their money! (thanks guys)

Even if you do not want to compete, come see what hand launch is all about. It is a fantastic site to see these top guys fly!

And no Denny, neither of these are the place you stayed in (Sorry about that!).

I will go so far as to allow any expert who wishes to come but feel that the Island is too pricey(I do!) to stay at my home (2.5 miles from the field) in Plainview (just off Northern Pky and Rt135). I have already made this offer to 2 others and will need to know how they stand before accepting offers. Send me an email and I can tell you who it is and if they wish to share. I have an empty den and a castro couch (queen bed) in the living room for whoever wants. If you want to bring a sleeping bag or air mattress, you are more than welcome to come. Just check with me first.

for those who have never flown either the poker or 15 sec incremental round, we will be doing them at LISF! Many of the locals have been doing these tasks since the season began and have been having a ball doing them.

The only change we are looking to do is that your timer will replace the 'official timers' that are indicated in the F3K rules.

Do you guys feel that the calling must be done in a loud fashion or can be done as a 'secret between timer and pilot'? Many of the local club guys try to keep their times secretive so that others won't out call them. I am leaning the other way that the time you call must be able to be heard by the official on the field (I am planning on having at least one roaming around to keep things honest).

If there are any that feel we shouldn't, I am always open to suggestions.

If there are any novices, I would like to mention that we can register you into the AMA at the field and sign you into the ESL ahead of time as well. I saw in the CD packet that this was feasible. Just send me an email and we can get you started ASAP.

Come down and see ALL of the new F3K tasks being flown (that's my goal depending on conditions!) It will be a great day!!!

I would like to thank all those who have currently registered.

I would also like to add that if anyone has any special dietary needs, please bring them to my attention. I know that heroes will not meet with everyones needs and am willing to do all I can to accommodate everyone as best I can.

Just shoot me an email, and concider your needs met!!

Come and have a great time with a great bunch of guys!

My plan is to go through all the tasks listed in the F3K official rules with minimal alterations based on available help.

thanks and have a great flying season!

That is awsome.....congrats too two you as well. I think the wife will be staying home preparing the nest. While both she and I share a lot of activites that we enjoy doing together my planes are not one of them... Looking forward to seeing all the boys from my old field again. Has Klaus gotten himself a HLG. Last fall I spent a fair amount of time with him flying in CT and after he watched me spec out my DLG a few times he was saying something about having to get one.

Just wanted to update everyone.

I am working on the task list for the contest and hope to have it up in the next couple of days.

A new mark has been set and I don't think anyone would like to beat it. CRRC had a total of 11 ROUNDS on Sat. Way to go MArk and CRRC. It was loads of fun but very tiring. I will be aiming for 9 and will see based on time of day and closeness of the scores as to whether to continue or not. If there is a popular consensus to go further, I will.

I am hoping to get more expert participation and am opening the forum to any suggestions as to how I can entice them to come. There is currently many sportsman that really appreciate their assistance throughout the day.

I hope more pilots of any skill level will come for the fun on the Island!

Hope to see you there!!!

Hey Frank, getting ready for your event. Too bad we missed each other at CRRC. Congrats on 2nd place man great job. I was able to squeek out 1st in Sportsman on Sunday over Ed by 190pts. We should have a good group of competitive Sportman pilots at LISF. There will be You, Ed Byron, Felix Tang, Jim Hahn and myself and I am sure many other good pilots this year. Can't wait to get in the mix.

Hey Jim I am going to give Klaus my QFII to chuck around next time I see him. I have been flying with him since the spring up at Waveny.

BTW just registered for both days.

just to let you know we have a couple of local LISFers that will be highly competitve. Sportsman will have their hands full. It will be a real race for the top spots!

I wouldn't be surprised that in the near future many of the sportsman we will be seeing might advance to expert.

Glad to see you guys make your way into the upper echelon of the ESL and have made the LISF HLG contest one of your stepping stones to the elite!

Glad to have all of you attend!
