Hi Vince!

Nice characters!

I see that You used plastic hinges... I think You can save ~5 gramms if You use tape instead of these! And it's much easier to apply!

Hi Smash,

Those are textil and /fiberglass/ hinges. I prefer them more than tape (If you mean selfsticker tape), and its weight is nothing~5 gramm.

You just cut the place into the control surface and the other part wich to the control durface belongs, some CA and it is ready.

Wow!!! That's such a beautiful 12-pannel cut Manta wing. Outstanding.

What's your plan, next? Bag it or mold it?

First I make a bagged one to fly, after - if I'll have enough time - I'll make a mold too. Before the wing mold I want to make a new pod mold because the first one got some silly mistakes.

I was especially surprise by the strong interests outside USA. Some statistics from viewing the YouTube video, hope you enjoy. THANK YOU !!!!

5-minute flight in 3 degree deep freeze. That's quite a achievement. Congradulations.

I seem to shrink everything down, gliders are no exception - been tinkering with this for almost a year now and finally have it flying, thought you guys might enjoy size HLG.

Although the pod is not of the Manta design, the wing and tail and overall demensions are scaled down from the original Manta plans. It even had a full flying elevator at one point, but it had some slop I couldnt remove and it made flying nearly impossible. Its got a standard fixed elevator now.

Span is 19.5 inches, pod is a single layer of kevlar, CF tail boom and balsa for everything else. Depending on the amount of ballast, AUW is anywhere from 18 to 22 grams, wingloading as low as 2.2oz/sq ft.

The video quality isnt great, nor were the flying conditions, but it gives you an idea of how high I can launch it. The current solid balsa wing flutters if I launch it too hard, so the heights in this video are lower than normal. A new wing will be made this weekend, havent gotten a chance to try the balsa/durobatics wing yet, but the wings are quickly and easily interchangeable.

Despite the poor flying performance in this video, I have caught a few thermals here and there, over culdesacs or on small hills - doesnt take much rising heat to make this thing go skyward. The company that makes the RX in this plane is coming out with a 6 channel version...I think ailerons/flaps will be in order next time around.

Thanks for the plans, Geode!

Micro Manta RC HLG glider (2 min 25 sec)

The elevator got stuck on the 4th launch, causing the plane to be suck inverted, nearly planted it in the blacktop, but it pulled free just in time.
