As you know, my Manta wing tip is solid balsa. I simply cover the tip with ~1.5 oz fiber glass or Kevlar (with epoxy). In additional, a few drop of thin CA around the throwing blade will make the balsa last even longer.

My solution is almost the same; laminating 25 glass with CA around the peg.

Thanks,
I ended up putting some CF tow around the blade - probably overkill. I almost have the wing done and am about to start the fuse. The finished weight of the wing should be about 5.5 - 5.75 oz.

Hi Dave and Bob,
I hope so - just depends how much time I get to spend on it.

Hi,

I have started building another Manta, strictly alone without any help

I proceed very slowly with the building I have started around october but the wing has finished now. Good work needs much time, for bad work needs more

The wing is now 125 gr but the FG reinforcements from the wing tip and the middle is missing, and the launch peg is missing too, so it will stops around 160 gr with covering, but it is ok for me, if I look that the previous wing was 230gr. If I start again I would do a lot of thing in different way.

Off:
For 2009 we would like to organise an F3K competition in Hungary
I have started translate the F3K rules to hungarian, but there is an expression wich I cannot understand:
"Unintentional jettisoning"
Could any one explain what does it mean, because I don't find this any dictionary?

Cheers,
Vince

Make Flying Fun
Parts falling off!

unintentional = accidental, not on purpose
jettisoning = flying off, falling off

Reducing weight from 230 grams to 160 grams That's quite a achievement.

Where are the weight saving came from?

Well,

On the previous wing was used carbon reinforcements both on the main spar and the wingtips, but on this I will use only FG on the middel of the wing at the joint of the half wings and of course at the wingtip where the launching peg will be.

So that's the cause of the weight difference.
