Manta RDS is ready. Unfortunately it's 340 gramms My fuse is too heavy, with an SG pod I can save ~10 gramms. I haven't maidened it. RDS works well.

Love that RDS in full brake position. I guess your Manta will stop right on the spot when you pull the break.

As for the weight, 340 grams is OK with the extra wing area in Manta. Good luck with you maiden.

Hello, Geode!
What servos do you use for control ailerons sd100 or sd150?

Most of 5~10 grams servo with ~15 oz torque will do the job.

Finally I finished the Manta. I maden it two weeks before:
First step was some single gliding:

Nkmkhun - Manta első hosszabb repülése (0 min 17 sec)

But I had a little problem with my first discus launch:

Nkmkhun - Manta pörgős start (0 min 18 sec)

Please don't laugh, clever person learns from other person fault, stupid from his own mistake
(This was my first DLG launch )

From this bad start the fuselage had broken, so the plane needed a little rework.

During the rework the wing got the launch peg, then came the next maiden. I glided the plane without any problem.

A video from the 2. start with launch peg:

Nkmkhun manta eldobás + repülés (0 min 29 sec)

and another one:

Nkmkhun manta eldobás (0 min 16 sec)

Now it is okay from a DLG beginner, I think

Unfortunatelly it weight is 450 gr
Thanks to the too much carbon in the wing, the big and heavy pod (but it looks great), the bigger AAA size 350mAh accus, and the normal rx.

I can throw it only about 20-25 meters. From this height it flies 30-35secs.

But it will be good for improve my skills and launc technics, while I will make the second one.

All of my acknowledgements Geode, I can imagine how it can fly with 300 gr.
But I hope I can't imagine it only, but I will control it (next one)

Can we get some information about the Manta 2?

For the next one I will use the balsa pod and I will purchase smaller accus, a micro rx, and I use only a small carbon stripe on the wing to keep the strength and for the launch peg.

What do you think about the light balsa?
Is it enough strength to build all the wing from it?

Hi Wyncee,

That's a really nice Manta. At 450 grams and she still glide at a very nice sink rate. I'm very surprised.

With some practice, I believe you can lauch a lot higher. Find a nice thermal day and you're very likely to find a thermal and go all the way up.

Light balsa is a must to reach 300g target weight. If you feel the wing strength is not enough, try using light balsa in the wing center and gradually move to the harder balsa near wing tip. Using light balsa for DBOX is probably one of the most rewarding area for weight saving.

As for Manta 2, I don't thing I can keep up with you learning curve. Too many side projects on hand.

Max, check your mail box for printable plan.

I put in the throwing peg: 25 glass, laminated with CA and some carbon.

I did aorund 40 starts, higher and higher but in the end my boom gave it up and broke

I'm not so happy now, becouse I can't find any good carbon boom to my Manta so I can't repair it yet. I'm thinking about a new home made carbon boom...

Fortunately only the boom broke.

Hi Geode,

I'd like to build this plane as the succesor of the OFA. The Dutch DLG. The performance of this plane is good for a beginner, but I expect more. The Manta will fullfill this requirement with its ailerons and bigger wingspan.

Please send me a copy of the plans at

Looking forward hearing from you.
