I just detuned the ESC on the advance so it did have a negative effect i was in the 120 flat out before.. but i flew the whole pack out and it was cool as a kitten when it came down so i think i will leave it this way till after AEF..

tony i have one of those suppo esc's and they work great for a123's, i only trust the castle esc's with lipos but that is just me. i tryed running with the lowest cut off and ended up turning the lv cut off, off.

when we flew all together in elk grove i remember my plane with 5a123's and a het 4w was slightly faster then the other planes at first. but i had a shorter run time of around 7mins. i miss that day

Hey Punkrockd, how goes it. Sounds like it was a blast. Got the 60a esc and the long can ARC 28-47-2 for $75 and free shipping. Sounds like CK is liking the ARC motors too. I might pick up a 1.5 turn long can and another 60a esc from Lightflight RC, can't beat the price.

since i'm not using lipos in the larger range anymore i'm only going to use those esc's for the a123 planes.

cant beat that price. i've been saying for a couple months now that i'd order another esc or 2 and a arc motor. but lately i've been into my airfoilz edge and gliders, i really have not been flying much.

I wish we had a good place to slope around here, looks like good times. Here is the last build pic before glassing. servos all in and foamed over.

How much height did you end up with in your battery bay Wingman? Just planning a future project

It's an inch at the thickest part of the wing with the floor cut in.

40" Demon A123 build

Ready for glass. This is the part of the build I enjoy the most as the plane really starts feeling stiff. I'm not going into a great deal of detail on this process as Chris and Atom can describe it better than me. I will show my work and a picture speaks a thousand words.

Before glassing, with servos the Demon weighed in at 10.8oz. I'll be sure to get a weight after glassing for comparison. I wrapped 4 layers of duct tape around the battery pack and shoved it all the way forward to create a little bigger pocket so that the pack will slide in easier after the plane is finished.

I was looking at the rectangular laundry detergent bottles (1.56 gal) as a source for material for the bottom of the battery bay. I can get a piece as large as 6"X7" out of it. It would be almost flat when cut from the bottle. It is pretty tough stuff and thinner than 2mm coroplast. What do you think?

It should work for the bottom, not sure if it would be as rigid as the coro. I'm thinking of making some landing skid plates from that.

ab8ug I would just be worried about the lack of cushion for using the thin plastic as the bottom of the batter compartment. If you use coroplast there is at least some cushion if you land hard.

I don't land hard, I CRASH. :-{)

Neu 1110-2Y 2500KV

I've already fried a Justgofly 500TH (Vinnie was not to happy ...nice smoke trail running a 6x4 on 3 cells no yet but around 700 watts is was making a lot of heat and not every efficent! It did do 103mph on the WW and last five packs...doh!

Also what is the record top speed and prop configure with 4S with the above motor and 40" D? Also how much lighter is a Demon lite? Which I will be using.

Ken - 700 Watts is alot higher than the rating of the motor. We have 550's coming out that will run a 6x4 on 5S. That may be more your style.

I run my Demon on 5S on the 550 and full throttle the whole time the motor comes down cold. I upgraded 60 6x5.5 and still cold. 6S became very difficult to launch. I'll see if I can post some video.
