OK Thx. I ended up just going normal straight elevons per plans anyways. Well sorta per plans. I just went TLAR method for the most part keeping certain size ratios intact.

Kids are at grammy's & wife was gone a few hours setting up a mom to moms sale. Took advantage and fired up the hotglue gun.

Got the airframe together. Just gotta gear it up. Going elevon only & will add rudder later.
Does that fin look a bit small?

Looks like enough to me.
I flew mine without the unhinged rudder and it was fine.
Then I attached an unhinged rudder (like I think you did) and didn't see lots of difference.
But, I am not a great pilot, either

Thx Walt. Actually, that line you see on the stab is not for rudder. Thats just a pen line that has nothing to do with the build. Sure looks like rudder tho eh? lol

I forgot to add that I programmed LOTS of mix between throttle and elevator - it was pitch sensitive.
Probably too much power, eh?

Unfortunately, no mix programming for me. Using an Old school Conquest. Just dual rates and thumbs. Probably why I have never gotten the hang of in close coo coo flying with elevon planes yet. I can do all sorts of silly flying with the RET's but I have yet to successfully fly an elevon ship in close. Just park jets.

This will be my 4th try at it.

The vet. stab looks good to go. Your on the right track, the Drenalyn is a good ship for learning yank n' bank.

Wishing you success.............

finally...

So I can finally say I successfully flew an in close elevon ship without issues.
The Drenalyn is a sweet flyer as anyone reading this thread already knows.

Also the easiest build I think I have done. Way simple gearing up.

Took it out this morning 7am before the winds kicked up and went to a parking lot by tall grass.
So this is definitely a nice parkflyer as is and no rudder needed for such flying. But I must concur with the masses... if flying in close and silly, rudder is nec.
So looks like I finally found my LT thumb rudder trainer.

With CG at about 25 to 28% it was real nice. I moved it aft a bit and noticed it is a handful and w/o rudder probably not a good idea. Fortunately I was always over grass when terra firma couldn't be avoided.
I love flying in close and silly so I will be adding LG and rudder when time permits.

Thanks for another Great One Goldguy.

Jimmy

So there you go. Congratulations! You've faced those yank n' bank fears head on and now there's no other way but onwards and upwards.

goldguy got my micro Drenalyn flyin great and what a blast. When I first started scratch building I made a micro Nut Ball and loved it, then I found the Dart and it became another immediately favorite. Now I have the Drenalyn and fly it more than my other planes. If you have another one as sweet as these three that I somehow missed I would love to see it. Only my kids have put more smiles on my face than your planes, that there says allot.

Man TODD, I just went thru your blog, your micro builds are just too sweet. Quite inspiring.

Now I just gotta figure out how I can poney up the cash for some micro gear.

Those three designs for me have been hard to top and believe me, I've been trying.

The ones that got me started in foam were the Pizza Box Flyer and the Stealth Sport, still love em' after all these years. My favorite right now is the PiPlane..........and about six, or seven, or eight others.

Had to try one of these. This one is from Dave Reaps plan and has a C&K twin stator kit motor from a few years back,3 cell 800mah lipo,3X9 gram servos.I have used cable snake for the rudder, still have the supports to do for the elvon control rods.AUW is 9 ozs so should be good over my breezy flying field.

Very good weather here in Derbyshire today so had a chance to try out the Drenalyn. This is probably the easiest plane I have ever flown but the aerobatics match any other plane I have owned. The loops are very tight and the rolls good and fast.Inverted is great and the glide with power off is great.
This is fast becoming my favorite plane as it will do everything.
