How about 24 stator teeth and 28 magnets? I burned my Turnigy Rotomax 1.60 and would like to rewind it...

Rewinding Scorpion SII 3020

I've got a Scorpion SII 3020 780kv that I want to rewind to be an 8turn 1110 kv motor for my Z2.

Anyone have experience with this? What type and gauge of wire should I use?

Here are the specs of the 1110kv:

Stator Diameter 30.0 mm (1.18 in)
Stator Thickness 20 mm (0.79 in)
No. of Stator Arms 12
Magnet Poles 14
Motor Wind 8 Turn Delta
Motor Wire 17-Strand 0.25mm
Motor Kv 1110 RPM / Volt
No-Load Current (IO/10V) 2.08 Amps
Motor Resistance (Rm) 0.016 Ohms
Max Continuous Current 60 Amps
Max Continuous Power 840 Watts

Is this a 12N14P?

Now this is knowledge I'd like to have.

A 10 turn Delta would be pretty close. Try using a single strand of 23AWG wire for this. It is dLRK.

Stop me before I build again!
Ok, rewond, attached ESC and all it does it stutter. Everything checked out but I think I might have gone "backwards" when winding. So I used this pattern "AaAabBbBCcCcaAaABbBbcCcC" , but I went clockwise from the bottom view.

Do I need to redo all the wiring or is it maybe just the connections?

EDIT: Crap, I think I wound the second set of phases the same as the first.... that would do it.

Done. Rewound and tested. The radio shack 30 gauge magnet wire is really hard to solder right, had to do it twice before it took to the bullets. Thanks for this thread, lots of good info! Finished up this job with heat shrink, bullets, and a dab of hot glue to prevent movement.

I have a question on WYE termination.
Does it matter whether you join the beginning of the wire or the end of the wire to terminate?
And what are the consequences of joining the beginnings? (Yes....I just did.)

Got info back from Magnus that it does not matter. Just for info.

Hi Alex
Wow I just found this thread while serching the web for more info on motor winding it's just what I was looking for thanks for the info, I shed a motor in flight and it ripped the rotor away from the stator. While reading about winding motors for camera gimbles on FPVUk-HUB I realised I could have a go.
I was lucky that the wire was easy to remove, I measured it at 36SWG 4 strands; I could only get 34 or 38. I used 38SWG 20 turns 7,7,6 Delta. I've been lucky in that I only had to rewind 1 phase which I started on the wrong stator, the motor is runing very well very smooth on Trunigy Multistar 30A Opto that I flashed with SimonK.
I'm riding FPV on a Quad that weighs in at 1.512Kg which is asking alot more than the motors are rated at which is 1,280Kg @ 980KV. I'd like to lower the KV to drive a 10x4.7 on all 4 motors but I'm not so sure what gauge to go for and turns. the motors are 2212/14. It was a great feeling to see a dead motor come back to life.

I would like to rewind this motor or one of similar size to around 300-350Kv

12v 3s

As a spare parts learning project I plan on using a set of 450 blades to make a fan for my garage. This would be pwrd by excess power from my solar panels.

How does max safe power change when you rewind the same motor

Does the AWG of the wire dictate the max amount of Watts.

Is it best to pick the number of required turns and then the lowest gauge that will fill the stator for the most PWR

Any rewinders here? I'm going to rewind a 5010 -360kv RCTimer motor. I've read to use .15mm wire. But all I can find here in the US is by guage. AWG. The closest I can find is 35 AWG which it says its like 0.14mm. Is that okay?

They also have solderable and non solderable, is one better than the other?

Finally how long of a wire would I need per motor? I ask because they sell from 75 feet to 5000 feet reels. I have no clue how many feet (estimate per motor). I don't want to buy 5000 feet if I just need 100 feet.

Thanks.

Can't wait to try this.

Is this good: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magnet-Wire-...#ht_228wt_1157
