Question

Big AXI's for a 1/4 scale Super Cub

Well just as titled.
I've just purchased a 1/4 scale IKON-N-WST Super Cub .
It has been framed up, needs finishing and covering; and I have the float kit for it as well. The firewall and cowl have been set up for a gas engine. However I've been thinking of making this a electric airplane.
The motor that I've been looking at is the AXI 5330. I understand that this will need a 9S Li-Poly pack, of about 5000 mah to get 10-15min flights.
I see 3 different 5330 AXI's the /18; /24; &/F3A. I haven't looked up the scale prop dia yet; but I'm guessing that 18" or 20" should be close enough.
I've done the math and I figure that if I get 400ish flights out of a set of batt's the cost per flight should be on par with a glow engine but a little more that a gas engine.

So enough background: can anyone tell me which one of the AXI's will work best.
Thanks:
Rick

know it all
I plan to use the 5330-18 with a 10s2p pack of dewalt A123 cells in my Balsa USA 1/4 scale Cub.. with an apc 19*12 electric prop and a single 10s1p pack I get 1400watts and a lot of pulling power.. should get more with the 2p pack, and more if I go with a 20" prop. This is an actual measurement.

I used this 12s esc, about $90 shipped:

The 10s2p dewalts are about $200, best part is that they can be recharged in 15 minutes and they run so cool that you never have to remove them from the plane for recharging.. you can also put them on charge the moment you land.

Do you know the weight of your 1/4 cub ?

I have a 1/4 P47, that weighs 25 pounds. And one of these days i would like to switch it to electric. But cost is keeping me from going that route, at the present time.

As per the IKON site; it weighs 16lbs. (gas engine) However I sorta think it'll be closer to 20 on floats.
I've been looking at the viability; of going electric with this airplane. And came up with some loose #'s kinda quick, when discussing it with a friend.

The direct cost for the; engine/ gas/ 4cycle glow/ motor/&ESC is close enough for arguments sake.
So then on to fuel costs.32oz glow fuel vs:/ 16oz mixed gas vs:/ batt cost ($600.00 / 350 to 450 flights)
Maybe going big electric is actually cheaper than big glow but more expensive than gasoline

I'm going to have to check out these A123's if a 10S batt pack can be had for $200. That might be the final push to make the Cub electric.
Do you have to cannibalize the dewalt packs and make up your own 10S pack and do you just use a hobby charger for them?
