CONTEST: Thunderstruck EDF50 /J250

Well fella's here's my entry for the contest. THUNDERSTRUCK

I went conventional, and tried to keep it simple. Have tried 2 powerplants on the Airframe, GWS EDF50 and the J250. Maidened both this morning and both worked well. Blow'n its Head off here at the moment.

for EDF50 and J250 or can be found in Post 6
The EDF50 Specs - 17 inch Span / 18 long
Weight 4 ozs W/O Batt
2 x 5 gram servos
GWS EDF50 /feigao 1208425L Motor
Foam - Cellfoam88 ( 3mm ) / Polystyrene for Fuse

Thunderstruck 22 inch span ( Scaled up Leebospeeds PDF )
W/Span 22 inch
Weight 6 ozs W/O Batt
Motor 1300kv BW/7X6 APC Prop
Wing 5mm Cellfoam 88/Fuse 10mm EPP Doubled up
2 X 9 gram sevo's
12 amp esc
Even being a little bigger and by using the now famous Blue Wonder motor its a perfect match

I was happy with the way it flew with the gusty winds we have at the moment. Rolls like a drill and loops.
Well I scrubed the full fuse version and built a profile version. Putting the motor nearer the tail end has cured the problem of looping. It works fine.

J250 Specs - 17 inch Span
18inch in length
J250 / 4025 Prop
2x 9gram servo ( all I got left )
Weight 4 1/2 ozs W/O Batt
Foam - Cellfoam88 ( 3mm )
Please Note: the CG is 7" from the front of the wing ( NOT THE NOSE ).
The fusalarge when fitted ( Nose ) is 2 1/4" infront of the Wing.

Rolls like a Drill, Loops well and I'm happy with its flight capabilities. I'm waiting on a few Little Gems from Don, at StrongRC motors to power the bugger ( ELE C20 ), that's why I'm using the Old J250. ( Great little Motor )

Hopefully will have some Video in the next few days of both. Just gotta decide which I'll put up front even though their both the same airframe.

On lighter Note : Any idea's, any comment on the aircraft or idea's would be gratefully appreaciated. Also the other fella's and their aircraft are Fantastic. The contest has brought out many idea's and building techniques, a full Spectrum of the Envelope. I have learned a Great Deal from you all, can't put a price on it, THANKS. Also Thanks to Logical Psycho and the fella's who organised the Contest and the Sponsors.

I have put up my Final Pic of the EDF50

Here's the Video of Thunderstruck - J250 and the EDF50. Both are exactly the same but different power plants on the same airframe. Plans for Thunderstruck are below. Please Note : Lebbospeed has kindly done a Full PDF of Thunderstruck also so now it can be scaled up or down. A Big Thankyou to lebbospeed for his great work.

Please Note: Add at least 1/4'' Reflex to the Elevons.
Cutout for prop is for Reference only.
Adjust slot to suit motor/prop combo you have.

Please Note: The CG is 7" from the FRONT of the WING on 17inch W/Span, Not the NOSE. The fusalarge when fitted
( Nose is 2 1/4" in front of the wing.) I apoligise for any misunderstanding.
Regards Box

Thanks GPW . Recieved a couple of those Small B/L motors from Don at StrongRC yesterday. So I'm going to throw one of those in and see how she goes.

Thanks Chara . Mate, for me the camo paint work is easy to see and easy to do plus its not a bad look either, glad you like it. I've really enjoyed the Contest. I'm already a winner with all that I have learnt from these guys and the rest of you fella's, yourself, GPW, Gene Bond etc: to many to mention, on RC Groups. The thought, workmanship and ideas that the fella's have displayed not only in the Contest but also on Threads here is Fantastic .

Thanks Youth Must Fly , I drop in on your thread everyday and I'm amazed at your workmanship and style on your Bipe. Thanks for letting us come along for the ride with the Bipe.

There's something different everyday to see and to think about.

Glovesave39, I have been running it on 3 cell 450 mah pack ( 4025 prop )with throttle control. Geeez that self imposed throttle control is hard to do . Havn't blown a motor yet, so, so far so good . 2 cells would be fine. I have just built a third T/Struck using StrongRC B/L motor the ELE C20 (2900kv ). Uses a 4025 prop same as a J250 but pulling around 6amps and it weighs about 20 gr. This little motor maybe the Brushless equivent of the J250. I will probably maiden it Monday and see how this little motor goes. The pic below is ELE C20 and some stats from StrongRC on it.

2500 Kv motor, GWS 4x4 prop, 10.5 V, 5.2 A (good setup)
2500 Kv motor, GWS 4x4 prop, 8 V, 3.6 A (Weak)

2900 Kv motor, GWS 4x4 prop, 7.5 V, 6 A (good setup)
2900 Kv motor, GWS 4x2.5 prop, 10.5 V, 6.3 A (good setup)
2900 Kv motor, SL stock prop, 10.5 V, 5.5 A (good setup)
