Raven 3M Sailplane

I am trying to locate the plans to the Raven 3M Sailplane by Mike Smart of the Raven Family. It appeared in the Aug. 1990 issue Radio Control Soaring
Digest. I would appreciate any information that can be obtained about this sailplane.

Thanks in advance.

There is a 4-part series on building this wing at: http://www.b2streamlines.com/OTW.html

Hope that helps.

Raven 3M Sailplane

Ah, that is the wrong Raven. The Raven I am looking for has a gull wing and otherwise is of standard configuration. Wingspan is 119 inches.

I can't help you there, but I can see why you'd be interested. That is a gorgeous plane!

One of the guys in NIMSA (Northern Ireland Model Soaring Association) has one. It creaks and groans it's way up the winch line, but once released it's in its element. It's a very distinctive shape in the air. Andrew has finished his in white and it looks far better than all the black ones I've seen

I would like to know how it handles with elevator and ailerons.

Building a Raven right now, see the build log

Hi I am near completion of my Mike Smart Raven. I am converting it to electric and adding flaps, so the build log is in the Electric forum here:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...81#post6569527

Almost ready to paint. All that is left is paint, cutting out ailerons and flaps, and electronics installation. I can't wait to see how it looks and flies. Setting it up in the kitchen, this is the most beautiful glider I have seen in a while.

I believe Mike Smart is still selling plans. I ordered my set about 2 years ago. Here is his web site, and he frequents RCGroups.

Hi Tim,

I will be following your Raven 3M blog with much interest. I think I might be interested in building this sailplane.

I bought the plans as soon as MS issued them, a 3M Raven must be black! All their natural cousins are and none of them have an electric motor! In the early 80s it was a revelation in its style and performance. Mine now resides in the museum of Daveosoar Flight - but I'm willing to bring it out in any comp. with any other RES glider off a 30M tube plus 150M of 150lb monofilament nylon (the club's standard) Stays with my old Medicine Man, the even older Vega and was second to a 600 mouldie (by 1 point) in last year's aggregate thermal comp. Mike Smart is sm+++.
Daveosoar.
