11 Die At Pakistani Kite Flying Festival

Quote:
LAHORE, Pakistan -- An annual kite festival Sunday in eastern Pakistan has left at least 11 people dead.

Officials said two died after their throats were cut by metal kite strings. Kite flyers often use string made of wire or coated with ground glass to try to cut the strings of rivals or damage other kites.

The festival is also often marked with celebratory gunshots fired into the air. Five people died after being hit by stray bullets.

Out of Time
You know, I think it would be a good idea if the Pakistanis were to think about having a Safety Officer at some of their events like we do here at AMA events.

Probably should think about carrying an AK-47, though... and maybe a couple of shock grenades to quell the panic for when the cook shack runs out of hot dogs.

It really is a shame that so many died at one event in pursuit of their hobby.

This is not an isolated occurance. Those strings have been killing people for hundreds of years.

Except that fighting kites with cutting strings go back tens of hundreds of years and are not unique to "Muslim 3rd world" nations. Even 1st world America has kite fighting contests.

When we're not watching NASCAR driving 'round in left hand circles like other advanced societies.

Unless Frogchief is one of those, I don't see how he is a hypocrite.
