I thought I would just get this topic back up to the top. My opinion is that you search through the threads and find what you like about the planes and weigh the difference. If the 3dhobbyshops yak looks better then get that one. Or if you like the extra better then get it.

Great point Andy. Here are some links to the two planes. Each of these two planes definately have qualities that you may or may not be looking for depending on how you fly your planes.

3DHS Yak 54 thread and RCG's Review.

Fliton AJ Extra 330 thread. and anotherAJ Extra 330 thread Be looking for the official RCG's review of the AJ Extra 330 coming soon.

We'll be happy to supply either the Yak or the AJ Extra (with free USA shipping), they're not really very similar airplanes so probably one or the other will suit a given pilot much better than the other. Fact is, all of these planes are getting really, really good. It's not like a few years ago when the choices were so limited. These are the good old days.

Thanks for the offer, but, I bought two AJ 330's from the lhs...I try to support them the best I can I may be in the market for a Yak also. One question though...can I use the hacker A30 from the AJ 330 on the Yak, or is it too big?

I am building the first 330 now and it seems to be a great plane. thanks for all the help guys!!

Care to elaborate? What are the strengths of these two planes? I see a lot of people raving and cursing airplanes on here. I try to get to know people that like the kinds of planes that I like and fly more like I do and listen to them.

I'm thinking of the size and $ difference to set them up. The Yak is happy on 350-400W, the AJ is bigger and will use a bigger power system.

so you are saying if I nose the Extra in (which is farely likely the way I fly) then I should by another one to replace it since the A30-10XL is too big for the Yak?

I have the AJ Extra, and I feel it flies very nicely on the A30-12XL with 4s @ 600W+. The Yak will probably like the A30-16M or Torque 2818T/900 with 3s @ 350W-440W.

The A30-10XL might be too small for the AJ Extra, and too big for the Yak .

my 2c,

Ron

Yeah, that motor is too big for the Yak. The Yak is happy on 350-400W, 12-13" prop, and 2000-2200 3S lipoly.

blucore...I just ordered a 47" Yak to go with my AJ 330 and I know you suggest a torque motor for the yak, but what axi or Hacker motor would you suggest. I feel comfortable with Axi's and Hackers.

The Torque 2818-900 motor (IMO the best choice) is 104g weight (3.7 oz.). The A30-16M is very similar in weight, but the KV is a little bit high. Some people are willing to run them on 12" props, some aren't. The A30L motors are over 5 oz. This is roughly the same size as the 2814-820 Torque. I think these motors are a little bit too big for the Yak. They work, but the 3.7 oz. size is preferable.

So, what we really need is a Hacker A30-16M sized motor with a lower Kv to swing a larger prop, and preferably in a high-quality package with excellent customer service. Ergo, the Torque 2818-900 is what we recommend for the plane. It's the best.
